When no products appear to affect the appearance of metal, one could begin to wonder if the wheels have been anodized? Anodizing does not react to any type of polishing chemical, once an anodized wheel is stained, you must have the wheel de-anodized and then polished and then re-anodized.

You really need to check with the wheel manufacture and find out what type of coating these wheels have and then proceed with a fix.

        Hey Mike,

I checked on a couple websites that sell these wheels and the description states that these wheels have a "clear coated outer lip."

Shouldn't the WB have been safe with these wheels?

I would use NXT all metal polish because it worked for my rims

If they are clearcoated as the description of the wheel stated, metal polish will not do a thing. That is used for uncoated metal.
A common mistake that people make when trying to design something completely foolproof is to underestimate the ingenuity of complete fools.

NXT All Metal Polysh can be used on a clear coated wheel... now if it works as well as a paint cleaner like ScratchX I am not sure but Meguiars says it can be used on a CC wheel.

Actually, our NXT All Metal Polysh can be used safely on clear coated rims. The best product for paint is always a paint care product, but we know that a lot of people don't know anything about their wheels so we made sure this product could in fact be used on clear coated wheels.

If memory serves me correctly, Richard Lin aka OctaneGuy recently ran into this problem and what happened was the wheel cleaner seeped under the clear coat and stained the actual metal.

I have a gallon left of Wheel Brightener. It works great, but it's way too strong. Plus, it eats-up your sprayer, even the chemical resistant ones.

                      1. if you find WB to be too strong than use it with a greater dilution level
                      2. do you realize you responded and commented on a thread almost 3 years old?
