If I use Deep Crystal Polish do I need to clay ?

I just got off the phone with Meguiar's Customer Care and they were fantastic.

I did have one last question that I did not get to ask which is the reason for this posting. I have a 98 Saturn SW2 that needs detailing but if I use Deep Crystal system Polish do I need to clay or can I go right to NXT after the polish

After you have washed and dried your car, wash and dry your hands and then run your clean hand over the paint surface. It should feel as though you are running your hand over glass, if it doesn't feel as smooth as glass then you need to clay the car.

Clay and polish are two completely different steps so....

Once your vehicle is washed and dried, run your hand over the surface of your vehicle and focus on the horizontal surfaces like the hood/roof/trunk. If the paint feels rough then you need to clay.

If the surface feels smooth then you can skip clay and move to a paint cleaner or polish and then on to wax.

What products are you going to be using??

What I plan to use now is your 1) Smooth Surface Clay Kit, 2) Deep CrystalSystem Paint cleaner, 3) ScratchX if needed, and 4) Two coats of NXT.

Sounds good... ScratchX where needed is a good idea, might take some time to do the entire vehicle but if you have some trouble spots thats the way to go. Let us know how it works out.

Cv, I think you are getting confused with the procedure. The 5-steps include: Wash, Clean, Polish, Protect and Maintain. Therefore if you are applying scratchX, even to specific spots, you'll want to apply scratchX before any polishes.

You forgot the Deep Crystal Polish.

Wash, Clay (if needed ), ScratchX if you need to do some spots, Deep Crystal Paint Cleaner, Deep Crystal Polish and then NXT Wax.

All day 0n 12/30 detailing the mom wagon, I had a very good day!

I did not believe what was said about claying but I have now seen the light. Not only can you hear it pulling that **** out of the paint but you can feel a huge difference while your doing it!

Wash, Clay, Paint Cleaner, Polish, Scratch X, NXT, and a beer made for a great day. While I did not address any of the deep scratches of chips the results were fantastic! Most of all my wife no longer bother’s me when I'm cleaning my 06 VW GTI, pictures will be coming as soon as we have a bright day.

Meguiar's thank you making a great product and your warning about eye irritation will be dully noted for future cleaning dates.

Hard to believe clay can do what it does... I wasn't a believer till I used it either. I demonstrated clay to my father and he would believe me till I showed him what it did.

Same here, I thought it was a waste of time and money until I detailed my friends car, boy what a difference it made.
