  • dual action polisher, #80, and nxt wax

so what is the best method to remove the #80 after applying it with the polisher? should I just use a microfiber cloth or should i use a microfiber bonnet on the polisher? same for the nxt wax. I have a w8006 pad, and a w9006 pad and also a microfiber bonnet. thanks.

For polishes and cleaners, a Supreme Shine Towel is good. Removing wax using a bonnet over a 7006 pad will give a bit extra gloss, though a towel can be used.

Be sure you dedicate a pad for use with a bonnet and nothing else. Since you really shouldn't use the 7006 on the DA (and since its a bit stiffer), its a good candidate for this task.

hmmm, i was wondering about the 7006 pad since i saw one today in the local parts house. why shouldnt you use it on the DA? i played with my da for the first time on my friends truck which has some pretty bad scarring on the paint. I was thinking that that pad and some #83 would maybe do a better job than the 8006 and the #80.

And don't forget......do not let the M80 dry, remove it while still wet. Let the NXT wax dry to haze before removing.

that may have been part of the problem. i may have let it set a little too long. I guess it would be best to just do a small area and then wipe it off immediately. so what should I use the 9006 pad for?

the 7006 pad can be used by PC, but only after you have had a lot of practice, know what you uare doing, have experience, etc. It is mainly designed for rotary use however.

The 9006 pad is for applying pure polishes and waxes.

yeah I just did a little searching around and found out more info on the 7006. I will go pick it up to at least have in the arsenal and will use it to back the microfiber bonnet for now.

Oh yes, you only want to work a polish into a small area, maybe 2' x 2', and work it until the diminishing abrasives have, well, diminished. Then remove it with a microfiber and move on to the next area. If you allow a polish to dry it will be a real bugger to remove!!

                  A couple of other tips:
                  • Polish at speed 5 on the DA polisher using the 8006 pad - apply almost enough pressure to stop the pad from spinning, but do allow the pad to spin; move the machine very s-l-o-w-l-y across the surface of the car so the polish has time to work. M80 has quite a long work time and you will see it start to look almost clear and quite thin when it's time to stop.
                  • Apply wax at speed 3 using the 9006 pad - apply only light pressure to the pad and go over a given area a bit faster than when polishing, and make sure to spread the wax nice and thin and even
                  • Remove was at speed 5 using a microfiber bonnet stretched over a 7006 pad (or the white pad that comes with the Porter Cable version of the DA) - again, apply only light pressure and "buff" just long enough to remove the hazed wax. You will need to go around the car with a MF towel by hand to remove wax from areas the stiffer pad/bonnet combo can't reach

Just remember: remove polish before it dries, but let a wax dry before removal.

it looks like the hardest part of learning how to use the da will be getting the m80 broken down and spread like it should be. another question is how much product should i put on the pad for a 2' x 2' area? thanks for the help

You want to apply roughly a 1/4" bead of product in a ring about 1" or so in from the outer edge of the pad. That's all you need for working a section.
