  • Ok, so i just covered my car in NXT tech wax with my pc...

...and it's been sitting for about 20hrs now in my garage and i'd like to apply my second coat now, but what exactly do i do?

should i apply the second coat on top of all the excess nxt, or should i gently buff until smooth and THEN apply the second coat?

how long should i wait after this to completely buff?

then how do I go about adding two more coats of gold class?

(if you can tell, school just got out and i have alot of free time to do a fulllll detail, woooop )

    thanks,
    mike

Wipe off the haze from the first coat before you apply the second coat. You should allow the first coat to cure before you apply the second coat. 8 hours, maybe less, should be sufficient since you are in Cali. When you apply the second coat, you only need to wait about 15 minutes, until it hazes, before you wipe it off.

Similar time frames would apply if you are going to top it with Gold Class. You might like the NXT all by itself too!

Well, what you did wasn't the most efficient thing. No harm done though. You did lose some time. You're in a warm dry climate so you don't have to wait so long for the sealant to cure. I am in Indiana and I'm looking at a minimum 24 hour cure time with the cold weather.

I wouldn't be surprised if the wax hasn't "cured" completely by this time even though you have yet to remove the hazed excess. I'd go ahead and wipe it off then just apply a second coat.

For future reference your process should go something like this:

          1. apply very thin coat of wax
          2. allow to haze for 15-20 minutes (check using the swipe test) and remove
          3. wait approximately 12 hours and repeat steps 1 & 2 above

A lot of people don't have the convenience of being able to wait that long between coats, so applying the second immediately is really not a problem anyway.

ok i must have put too much product on because even after 18 hrs of the initial coat (no buffing at all) the swipe test failed!

lol, but thanks alot for the info, i just finished everything and now im going to wait 12 hrs and buff whatever is left off!

That's unusual! Even if you apply a heavy coat the NXT will dry relatively quickly. Well, at least the paste will.

You must have applied a really heavy coat using the liquid. Or you are having a spell of cold weather.

hmm... it really wasnt that heavy at all, just on the hood it was... i polished my whole car with sonus sfx 1 and 2 before waxing...

but anyway, i have another question, after i buffed off all the excess, the car was pretty shiny, but then when you looked at the suns reflection in the car, it was hazed (note, there are absolutely 0 swirls/hazing/micromarring on this car sfx 1 and 2 took care of that)... it made me kind of upset to see that nxt ruined what i worked on for hours with polish....

will this go away after I buff again in 8 hours or so?

I hate to tell you this, but NXT did NOT ruin what you worked on for hours - but your technique may well have failed you. If you put ANY wax on way too thick and have to seriously work to get it off, then you run the risk of marring the paint. Waxes will vary in their level of difficulty to remove simply based on their formulations; #16 comes to mind as a product that can be a royal pain in the backside if you put it on heavy, but a genuinely thin coat comes off with ease.

I see that again you are planning on leaving the NXT on for 12 hours and then buffing it off. This is not recommended practice, although it really shouldn't hurt anything if you have a properly thin coat. I am curious though - where did you get the idea to apply and wait 12 hours or more before removing the hazed product? Surely not here on MOL.

gah i dunno... it just didnt make sense to put all the wax and the buff right away... i always thought you let it dry and THEN buff...

but from what you are saying, you put the wax on, then buff, then wait 12 hours and buff again, right?

well actually, do you think if i buff with a finishing pad misted with QD on my pc will that take off the product better than a bonnet? or will i just get unwanted results???

No, what he is saying is you apply the wax then wait 15 mins buff it off. Then wait a few hours, apply the next caot of wax, buff it off and your good to go.

Maybe you left some polish on the paint, or there are compatibility issues with the Sonus polishes. That's why I like to stay within one system as much as possible.

Take a small section and apply some NXT Speed Detailer and see if you can remove the haze.

                            This would be correct.

No, you don't want to introduce other chemicals to wax at any point of the process.
