  • NXT over #21

I know this has been discussed before but I searched and can't find it. I just got #21 and am going to layer it with NXT. Which would be better to use first to get the longest lasting results and protection?
    Thanks

    Re: NXT over #21

Forum consensus is that most people think M21 lasts longer and beads water longer than NXT, Meguiar's doesn't have an official recommendation to layer waxes and at the time of this post, the official statement on which wax in our line protects the best from attack and anything that could come into contact and deteriorate your car's paint is the NXT Tech Wax.

If you are serious about maintaining your car's appearance, then think of detailing like you do changing you oil, you change the oil in your car every 3000 miles as a means of preventative maintenance. If you go over 3000 miles without changing it the engine doesn't automatically freeze up or quit running, but it's accepted that changing the oil at this frequency reduces wear and tear and thus insures a longer lasting engine before having to rebuild it.

Car appearance is somewhat the same way, how often you wax your car depends on how you use the car, (daily driver versus a garage queen), and where you park your car and how you wash it. The more wear and tear your car sees, the more often you should wax your car because wax is a sacrificial barrier coating that is supposed to wear off or sacrifice itself so that your car's paint doesn't have to.

If you don't replace the wax as often as it's wearing off the paint won't automatically fail, but by waxing often you insure the paint will look good and last a long time before needing to be replace.

    Hope this helps a little...

      Re: NXT over #21

Put the #21 on first. Give it a chance to cure, preferably 12-24 hours before you apply the NXT. You will love the combination! You will get the best of both products that way. The looks simply cannot be beat. Plus you can apply the NXT as often as you want. It will not remove the #21.

I prefer the NXT Paste. It is very easy to work with. If you forget and apply a little bit too much, it will not streak. It may be a little more difficult to remove but not an issue at all. I've used the NXT down to 40 degrees F and it always dries quickly. High humidity does not affect the ease of removal.

You will find this to be a very nice combination! I have to credit 2hotford for using this combination as he recommended it. It is great for daily drivers. If you get a few swirl marks or spider webs, the NXT will fill them right in. Most of us cannot machine buff and polish our daily drivers every week LOL!

I only had to clay my car one time this summer, just after I bought it! I didn't have to clay to remove tar or tree sap at any time after that. No clay until my winter detail. I do credit both products, along with the NXT Speed Detailer, for keeping the conatminants from sticking to my paint. There were some body panels where I only used the #21, and the road tar did not stick there. And I had no tree sap where the NXT was used as a topper.

Also, I would recommend using NXT Speed Detailer to maintain the finish in between washings. It is the best QD I have ever used. Last Touch comes very close though.

Thanks for the replies! I know I should've posted these in the Show Off section but it has to do with this post. I did my Jeep with #21 today and followed with NXT paste, which I like better too by the way, and the results are amazing!! I love this combination! As far as the rest, I used ASD on the tires, wheel wells, plastic body cladding and side view mirrors. Not too bad for a winter quickie and considering it's 45* outside!

          Re: NXT over #21

My feeling is that NXT removes the #21. The reason is because I did half of my wifes hood with NXT over #21 and the with just #21. The half with #21 only lasted longer (in terms of apperance and water beading).

Thanks Mike! I try to wax my vehicles every couple of months at the latest and clay, #83 if needed, then #80 at least twice a year. I keep getting accused of being too anal by my wife and friends, but what can I say, I'm a car nut! I try to wax them more often, but detailing on the side takes away from doing my own. But at least my customers are happy!

Nice job! Tim recommended the ASD for my tires, now I see why! Gotta get some of that! Did you dilute it or apply full strength?

The NXT over #21 looks great as expected!

The ASD is solvent based so you use it full strength and a little goes a long way. I love that stuff and thanks for the compliment!

                  Re: NXT over #21

                  Hey,

As RamAirV1 mentioned, I use NXT Paste Wax over #21 during the summer months as it does not seem to attract as much dust; That is important to me as I see a lot of mountain roads on the way to the fishing lakes! The specialized cleaners in NXT Paste Wax are exteremly mild and will not remove enough of the #21 to deny its benefits.

Here is #21 topped with NXT Paste

Tim, I am still amazed by those shots! Anything that cuts down on dust, I am very interested in! And that combination does seem to help. I still have a whole unopened can of NXT Paste so I am set for awhile!
