  • Good God!

My car is riddled with swirlmarks, so I bought some ScratchX to try and rectify this problem.

After a good half an hour spent polishing the hood of my Alfa 156, I finally managed to get an area of about 5 cm by 10 cm swirlfree. It goes without mention that I was sweating after I had achieved this!

Just goes to show... good ol' hand polishing can be done! Just difficult on extremely hard paint surfaces.

At this rate, I'll be done somewhere near June next year

You should invest in a dual action polisher. I too started with my hands and after about 10 min I was like there has to be a better way. Bought a PC 7424 and could not have been happier. Did a whole panel in the same time it took me to do a small section by hand.

        Re: Good God!

I used to use Scratch X on my car all the time for big detail jobs and it got rid of a lot of small very very light swirls with hand application. Scratch X for me now is simply a fine scratch remover that i use after washing or before detail.

I broke down from the hand stuff. I have a Meguiar's G100 coming for Christmas (thanks hunny!) and I have some 8006 pads, fresh microfibers and M80 M83 polishes to remove the horrific swirling on my 05 Matrix XR AWD.

After reading all over this forum and making a few inquiries of my own it seems the best thing to get the car back to showroom status. I am sure it is worth the investment.
