  • Paintwork concerns

I bought a 2003 Audi A4 (amulet red), a few days after I noticed that the paintwork appeared blotchy.
I originally thought the dealer had waxed it without washing it as it looked like rain marks under the wax.

I bought the scratch and swirl remover but it didnt make any difference. Someone has suggested using clay.
I wonder if I need to strip the wax and start over?

Any suggestions on a good starting point would be appreciated, or maybe I should take it back to the dealer?

    Thanks

    Re: Paintwork concerns

Well, you can always alert the dealer, but whether they will help or not is another story.

Is there any chance of any pics? That would always help...

Maybe give these a read, make sure you were doing things properly..

You know, ScratchX is a great product, usually when someone isn't getting the results they're hoping for it comes down to either,
      • Not using the right technique
      • Wrong product for the job

Also, it's a a dedicated paint cleaner, after you use it, the full effect comes after you apply and remove wax. It's not a stand-alone product.

              Re: Paintwork concerns

I dropped by my dealer today and they took a look at the car.
The guy explained that the marks where under the clearcoat, I didnt understand how this happens but he explained briefly that acid rain etc can get through the clear coar.

Anyway, he said they use a company who will come out and basically strip the clear coat (didnt explain how) restore and reapply the clearcoat.

I enquired whether this was something I could do, he said I should leave it to the professionals.....

.... anyway, they are going to enquire into an appointment for me, would still love to know if I could do it myself.

              Thanks

Sounds a bit like nonsense, but if it is indeed under the clear, however it happened, then you arent going to do it yourself.
