  • Last Touch leaving film??

    Hi all,
I clayed my truck today using the consumer line clay, but I was out of QD so I used Last Touch, diluted 1:1. After I finished claying the side, I wiped off the LT and noticed it looked like there was a film on there. I figured it just hadn't dried completely so I went on to the tailgate. Once I finished the tailgate I looked at the side again and it still looked like there was a film! I thought maybe it was just dew, so I used a dry towel and wiped it off. Or at least I tried to wipe it off. I wiped...and wiped...and wiped. Finally I figured possibly my towel was too wet. So I grabbed a clean, dry MF and rubbed a bunch more. Finally in one patch I got it to where there wasn't a film on it. The rest of the side still has a film on it, even though I wiped it off a lot. I know this isn't from the dew, because if it was dew I would have been able to wipe it off much easier and quicker. Any advice as to why I got a film and how to get rid of it? I was just planning on buffing with #80 after claying...would it be ok to just buff without removing the film? Thanks in advance for any help!!

    Re: Last Touch leaving film??

I also use LT when claying.... now I always rewash after clay so I have not noticed the film before. But Last Touch seems to smear if you use too much product(a little goes a long ways) or its applied on a warm surface. Now when you clay you use way too much product, and thats good so I would guess its from the amount of product. Have you tried #80 in a test spot to see what happens? If not I would think a rewash would remove the film.

Thanks for the quick reply and the explanation of why it is doing that, gb....I've been waiting (im)patiently for a reply because I want to get the side and tailgate buffed and waxed tonight. I'll go try a test spot with #80 and see what happens. Thanks!

I've seen some very light streaking when using other QD sprays, but only when used in pretty large volumes. Following with M80 seemed to work just fine and gave no ill effects.

Just letting y'all know #80 worked fine and the film was gone once I did a few passes; also thanks for the help. I got all the swirls buffed out of the side of the bed (that was all I had time for) and put on a coat of NXT and it looks awesome. It even seemed to hide some of the many deep scratches (they are through to the primer so I can't do anything about them).

LT does leave a film, that's why it's often used in showrooms to maintain the great wet look. I never wash after using though, just go straight to the wax.
