  • How can multiple layers of wax work?

I've noticed that many people here apply more than one coat of was on a vehicle. Whether it's the same wax or different waxes, I can't understand how and why.

    How:
If you put one coat of wax on the vehicle, what will the next coat stick to? The first coat just left a really slippery surface.

    Why:
Assuming there's reasoning behind the fact that subsequent coats will stick, why put more than one on? Does it improve the finish somehow or give a different look? Why not just use that wax the first time then?

I've never put more than one coat on and I'm looking forward to feedback.
It's only weird because it's not normal

Well, Meguiars tends to recomend two coats of wax to make sure it is even, and you didnt miss anywhere, etc, not to build up two layers of wax.

As far as how they stick to each other , I dunno, but they seem to.

You only have to apply one coat of wax, an optional step is to apply a second application to insure,

You're choice, it is an optional step.

We certainly don't buy into the "Layering" myth that circulates all through all the detailing forums. In fact, one of us wrote quite a bit on this to do our best to educate people. Have you read this yet? No one's ever challenged it or challenged it successfully...

      What's the deal with "Layering?"
