  • WHat's so good about #16?

I primarily use #26. I saw the link about the super sale for #16 and I wonder. How good is #16 as compared to #26 ?? What about #16 vs. #21 ???

    What are the honest opinions?

Re: WHat's so good about #16?

We've posted a lot on this topic, not sure where all the threads can be found, but no time to search for them today, perhaps someone will have a few links where this topic has been discussed thoroughly.

Nutshell, M16 is a traditional hard or heavy wax, it's also a pure wax, that is it has no cleaners, nor cleaning ability and can only be used on paint that is in excellent condition.

It can impart gloss and fill fine swirls and scratches, (like any quality wax product), but it will not add the richness of color like M26, Gold Class, NXT, M21 or even Deep Crystal Carnauba Wax.

It does bead water very well and some people really like this in a wax, maybe even most people. You must apply a very thin coating or it will break your arm trying to remove it. Thin coats as has been posted and emphasized for years on this forum.

I've seen reference to the fact that #16 makes a good "winter" wax.

Is there truth to this, and if so, why? Does it last longer? Resists salts, and spray better?.......
It's only weird because it's not normal

I have some #16 coming from Canada. Do you let #16 dry like all the other Meguiar's waxes I have used before?

Yep, let it dry first. And like Mike said the key to #16 is thin coats. Super thin. If it's hard to remove, you put it on too thick. It took me awhile to get a hang of this.

Yes, by all means let it dry but be sure to apply very thin. I routinely get 70+ applications per tin. If you apply it too thickly it will be difficult to remove. If that happens just wipe the hardened wax with some more wax and it will come right off.

Re: WHat's so good about #16?

An old timers thoughts on #16.

I have to say that I've done a lot of cars with #16 over the years. It was kind of my "Secret Weapon." I can't count the number of customers who have raved about how their car beads water after I've detailed and applied #16. The wax is very durable and the shine is very good but the thing that brought back more customers year after year is the beading properties of #16.

If I had to choose only one wax to use it would be #16. Fortunately I get to choose from a lot of waxes. I like #26 on medium to dark warm colors. I like #21 on cool medium to lighter metallics.

I use NXT on my personal cars. I don't dispute that NXT's extremely wet looking shine fades faster than a lot of other products but IMO, nothing else achieves that high level of reflective wet gloss as NXT. I use the NXT booster on my personal cars every other week so my cars look outstanding at all times. If I need to go through a Wisconsin winter I'll top my NXT with #16 but these days I head south for the winter. (snowbird)

I was fortunate to read of #16's demise in enough time to stock up. Not like Mike has but enough to last me the rest of my life. I still do 1-2 cars a week on average but I'm trying to stop detailing on the side all together now. It's very hard to refuse lifelong customers. Non-the-less, I'm getting old and arthritis is beginning to become a problem so I have to quit this. I've detailed on the side for 46 years and it had been a lot of fun and has certainly added some funds to my IRA. #16 was/is a great product and I'm very sorry to see it go.

Re: WHat's so good about #16?

I agree wt Jim. The problem with customers is they only can see they effect on the water beading. And they would think u did a magnificent detailing job & u used a very expensive product on the car for them. "Secret Weapon" Hehehe. In real fact u did a fantastic overall detailing job.

What bout the other Hard paste Megs waxes. Do they have similar results as #16...? I guess #26 would be somewhere similar though.

Myself I just like the Carnauba Paste waxes without cleaners. That's all. Merry Christmas & take it easy guys. TQ.

Re: WHat's so good about #16?

I recently topped #26 with #16 on my black GMC Jimmy. I was amazed with depth and clearity that I got (considering I find carnuba's muted)

I just took some pictures, its cloudy outside and I did this over a week ago so the paint is a little dirty.

Let's make all of the cars shiny!

Wow those reflections are nice! Looks like a mirror. Have you ever reproduced those kinds of results before using something like NXT + #26 or perhaps NXT+ #21???

To be honest, this may just be my inexperience, but wouldn't one or 2 coats of one product look just as good? Is perhaps using a topper really just a placebo and your mind tricks your eyes into thinking something looks "wetter"?

I've been waxing for years and have never heard of layering until I found MOL and Autopia. Anyway, I am getting tempted to buy #16 but it sounds like #26 provides the same benefits but it also gives a wetter look?

                            Guess I'm confused again....

I finally got in a tin of #16 a couple of weeks ago. I too didn't believe that a wax could make such a difference over another good quality wax. But, I waxed my entire truck with #26 about 2 weeks ago, then waxed only my hood with #16. The hood looks a lot more reflective, and actually feels smoother and slicker. After a light rain, the hood was still pretty clean and shiny, and the rest of the truck had that normal "just rained" look to it.
I am now a firm believer in #16, and just ordered 4 more tin's of it from Eshine during their sale.
