  • how to apply multi-coats

If you are applying multi-coats of cleaner, do you apply and remove and then re-apply and remove or apply and then re-apply and then remove?

    also

If after using cleaner you decide to clay a particular area, do you need to clean again or can you go directly to polish?

If you are applying a paint cleaner like Deep Crystal Paint Cleaner or similar and need more than one application....

Apply, work the product in then remove while its still wet and repeat the process for the number of applications needed. Follow up with a polish then wax and you are set!

You want to clay prior to a paint cleaner, now if you clay after paint cleaner for some reason in a particular spot I see no reason to use a paint cleaner again, straight to a polish should be fine provided you are using Meguiars consumer line clay(Smooth Surface or Quik Clay)... someone my have another opinion.

I have been washing, drying then clay but on another thread they were talking about washing then claying (while its still wet)....I got to try that.

But back to the question.....always follow the directions, for example if it says work in then remove then do that, and if you need to do more than one coat its still the same. Apply, work in, remove, re-apply, work in, remove.

The clay is used to remove bonded containminents from the painted/metal surfaces and the paint cleaner is there to remove suface contaimination as well as polishes and waxes from the painted surfaces.

They are using the water as a lubricant for the clay, but if it is just rinse water without any soap I dont think it will lubricate enough. Also you will have allot of water spots if you clay and let the water dry before you get to them. I have washed and then rinsed and then sponged on soapy wash water to clay the horizontal panels and then when complete did a final rinse and then dry. But I have reverted back to doing a full wash and dry and then clay with QD as a separate step to avoid the race with the water spots.
