  • Applying #7 Show Car Glaze

I have new car that I have maintained fairly religiously, my final finish coat has always been a paint sealant. I have recently purchased a bottle of #7 glaze. my question is do I need to remove the current top coats with clay or dawn to expose the clear coat for the polish to work properly? The car does not really need to be clayed and I have never been a fan of dish detergent, so i was hoping to just wash and clay a couple of horizontal panels and go with the polish and then trying a new megs wax as topcoat.

I am only a noob at this, but I have read here that it is NOT a good idea to use dish washing detergents on your paint work.

I agree I am hesitant to use that type of detergent on my vehicle, but then again I do not necessarily want to clay the entire vehicle in order to remove the protectant before I use the polish.

I too wouldn't wash your vehicle with a dish soap, stick with a quality carwash soap any of Meguiars soaps are excellent.

You can apply #7 then top with a wax of your choosing without removing the 'old wax'.

Ideally... You should evaluate the finish of your vehicle, if you have clayed recently and don't feel that its needed you can skip it. You can apply a paint cleaner like Deep Crystal Paint Cleaner if you prefer to remove the previous coat wax then move on to #7 and wax.

On a side note, I do believe #7 is applied directly over a wax to give a vehicle some extra pop say at a car show... that in mind the look of #7 won't last out in the elements, so in your case you will have to apply your wax to seal the look in.

Just go for it, focus less on the minors.

Wash the car, clay the areas that need it, then apply the M07 and then your wax of choice.

When applying #7 apply a thin coating, work in well and the wipe off and move to the next panel. Don't worry about getting each and every trace of the #7 off, just get most of it off and then go to wax. Allow the wax to fully dry before removing.

if you put the #7 on top of wax, how long should it last on there?

and if the car stays garaged (like a garage queen, never driven), would it last indefinately, so just dust off for the same original shine?

Well nothing lasts for ever according to the 2nd Law of Thermodynamics and the laws of Entropy, that is everything is in a state of chaos and everything tends towards getting worse with time not better and better.

That said, if you want your car to always just look like you waxed it, (or polished it in this case), then wax or polish it often. Your car always looks its 100% absolute best after apply a coat of wax or a pure polish and then make your final wipe and stand back and say that it is finished. Even if the does nothing but sit in a covered garage, with enough time it won't look as crisp as just wiping off a fresh coat of something.

How long a pure polish lasts depend upon a couple of things, one is how the car is treated, the other is how well the paint is prepared to accept the polish, a brand new car, or a car with a brand new paint job where the paint has never been broken, (as in opened up by compounding, sanding or some other way in which it's touched), will be a lot less permeable than an aged paint that's seen a lot of wear and tear and thus is more opened up.

Apply the pure polish, remove the excess and then when you're done playing with your toy, put it back into the garage until the next time. When you get it out again, inspect the finish, remove any light dust, determining whether or not the currant condition meets your expectations, if not, or even if it does, try applying a little #7 to a horizontal spot and then remove the excess and then compare it to the adjacent section, make up your mind at this point what needs to be done to insure your car's finish is at it's maximum potential.

Even when a car with a flawless finish needs to be re-polished, correctly done it can applied and removed rather quickly with good technique.

This has probably been asked and answered somewhere before, but I haven't found it.

Can #7 be applied with the G100, or is it by hand only?

                      Thanks for the help.

Yes, it can be applied by hand, dual action polisher and with traditional orbital buffers.

For application with the dual action polisher, aka the G100 or the PC, use the 4.0 setting and a yellow W-8006 foam polishing pad. After you polish a section or a panel, take a moment to wipe it off.

                            I just clayed,paint cleaner,polished,nxt.

now my question is if I use a pure polish, do I have to rewax again? or can I just use the pure polish(I know its not going to last like a wax) just to have a extra clean car for the weekend? And after that wears off my paint is still protected by my polish correct?

                            Thanks
