  • How do you deal with water runs after wash?

    Hi,
I was wondering how others here deal with the problem of water running from little nooks and crannies after you have washed and dried your car.

For me its usually from behind the front and rear number plates, under and behind the rear view mirrors, and the tail lights.

I normally take the car for a short drive, then when I return run over it with the chamois.

Yeah that is a real b*tch, those waterruns. I usually open en close the doors a few times, tap on the numberplates, etc...

this method works reasonbly well for me.

another option is to buy a air compressor and blow all the water out of these tiny spots and cracks.

      Thats a good idea
hmmm... I wonder if I could talk the lil woman into letting me get one.
I think I might be pushing my luck as I have spent quite a bit on Meg's products as it is.

Or a leaf blower. She might think you're going to work on the yard instead of always playing with your car

We live on a hill so I usually back my jeep down the hill then back it back up it.. That way all the water will run out and I just go over it again with my Water Magnets..

I use the canned air like is used for computer stuff. The little straw gets in the tight spaces really well and it's amazing how much water hides in some places. Two dollar can usually lasts about eight washes.

That's the most aggravating part of a car wash! Drip...........drip.........

The hill idea helps a lot! The leaf blower made major water spots for me, even though I rinse with a flow w/o the nozzle! The canned air sounds like a good idea!

I have a sloping driveway but I still need to take it for a short drive.

Graeme, after you've taken your car for the short drive you can eradicate those fresh water spots/streaks with a shot of Quick Detail spray and a microfiber towel. I do this all the time and it works great. If the car is well waxed (and I do believe everyone here has well waxed cars, right?) then fresh spots just wipe right off using this method.

RamAirV1, I've had the same results as you using the leaf blower...it almost makes things worse for me!! I've actually taken my wet/dry shop vac and literally sucked the water out of these tight spots. Seems to work quite well.

The vac sounds interesting. It won't disperse fine water droplets everywhere then leave spots like a leaf blower.

Nice to see some support for the shop vac technique. I mentioned this over at another detailing forum over a year ago and was met with resistance. Heck, some people even thought I was a bit wacky.

                              Paul, don't say it.
