So I get the MR2 out today for the first time in 3 weeks. Did a complete polish (DACP x 2 and AIO x 2) topped with #21 x 2 and one coat of Souveran. I took pics after the #21 and it looked really really shiny, lots of reflections. Topped with one coat of Souveran and today it just looked, well, not as shiny or as many reflections. Is this possible or am I losing my mind with all this stuff? I'm thinking about putting a couple more coats of 21 back on it, maybe I like the synthetic look, who knows? Can I simply coat with 21 over Souveran or do I need to remove the Souveran first, maybe with AIO? Thanks for the input as always. |

Souveran shouldn't have dulled the paint or the reflections. It is possible though....
We all judge something differently, I perfer depth and warmth vs. shine, so I usually top with a 'nuba.
I'm more intrested in the fact that you are topping #83 with Klasse and removing all the polishing oils in #83.Let's make all of the cars shiny!

Jason, when all is said and done, you like what you like. If you're happy after two coats of 21 then I'd suggest you stop there.
As for the polishing itself, did you need two passes of 83 to remove all the defects? If so, 83 can leave some hazing behind (I think we discussed this on another forum) so maybe that's why you followed with the AIO? Might I suggest next time around you go over the car with a single pass of M80 Speed Glaze? I think you'll find the high polishing oil content will make that red MR2 look incredible. Top that with your two coats of 21 and you should be a real happy camper.
Just an FYI: I'm assuming the M83 x2 got rid of 99% of your swirls so you shouldn't have to go that aggressive again any time soon (also assuming proper wash techniques, etc) so the M80 should suffice. It will also remove the Souvrain and your other two coats of 21, but man oh man will leave the finish looking great!Michael Stoops

What would you suggest moving to next then, rather than using AIO? I do have some #80 but haven't used it yet. I will say 83 did a remarkable job removing swirls and oxidation but left a haze with PC on 6 with yellow Lake Country pads. The AIO was incredible at removing the haze and really making it shine.93' Red MR2, 95' Black Miata, 96' White Grand Cherokee Limited

Can I simply top the Souveran with M21 or do I need to remove that layer of Souveran first? Oh also, does M80 stain trim?

Re: Am I losing my mind? #21 looked better alone than topped with Souveran?
#80 will remove the haze that #83 left behind and leave the paint super glossy and wet.
AIO is a great product, no question, but it removes the oils that #83 left behind, which can dull the apperance.
What I recommend is do your #83 then seperate the area in half. Polish one half with #80 and one half with AIO and compare the differences. I have done this exact technique on friends cars and they have all choosen the #80 side. That is not to say that you won't enjoy the AIO side, as detailing is very much based on personal opinion.
Meguiars has 5 steps and one of the them is polishing (as in introducing Meguiars' "trade mark polishing oils" into or onto the paint). This is before you wax/seal. Both DAC/P (Dual Action Cleaner/POLISH) and #80 Speed Glaze are rich in these oils (#80 more so and features some of the same oils as #7). Anytime you apply a cleaner on top of them you are skipping the polishing surface, and IMO, you are missing out on some of the gloss that Meg's is famous for.
Give a shot, you never know what your gonna like.
Are you going to sell that Souvern, btw?Let's make all of the cars shiny!

Thanks!
I think the offical anwser is yes, M80 can stain trim, but when I wipe the section I buff right after I buff it, I haven't had any problems.Let's make all of the cars shiny!
