  • Carpet & Interior cleaner

    Hi!

I've been using Meguiar's products (most from the Mirror Glaze line) for 5 years and use them for both exterior and interior detailing with exception for overall interior cleaning.
For interior reconditioning or fast touch ups, I use #40 and/or Quik Interior Detailer.

    On to the problem,
I live in Sweden and can't at the moment get hold of Meguiar's APC as a replacement for my "other brand" APC I use today.
What I really want is an "all surface cleaner" so my question is if the Heavy Duty Carpet & Interior cleaner (from the consumer line) is safe to use on all interior surfaces such as the vinyl, plastic and rubber in addition to carpets and upholstery?
    Can it be dilutable?
(understand if it's too strong for leather, have other products for those surfaces)

    Thanks in advance, great forum!

    Regards
    / Peter

    Re: Carpet & Interior cleaner

I just bought yesterday the cleaner you mentioned, I cleaned my whole interior of my '00 Yukon and it turned out very nice, no residue and it smells great. I used it the same day on my daughters '92 Lumina to get rid of spilled White Mocha that had been sitting in the car for some time. I used it sparingly and let it soak a few then scrubbed with a brush, then soaked with a MF towel, rinsed and repeated the soaking, I then ran a wet dry vac over it to get the dirt out, it really turned out nice and the rug looked good as new. As far as diluting, not sure yet. I thought of pouring some distilled water in it to see if it can be thinned but haven't. I only used about a 1/3 of a bottle on both cars. I did not clean the seats or carpet of the Yukon, only the front passenger rug of the Lumina, but cleaned the door panels, rockers, dash and everything else in the interior with it and topped it off with the Natural Shine protectant and the Yukon and Lumina never looked so well. I did not have problems getting the cleaner on the windows as it cleaned off very well with a MF towel.

    Have fun.

    Aaron.

      Re: Carpet & Interior cleaner

      Thanks for the reply!

Another question, would Carpet & Interior Cleaner works just as well as #39 on vinyl/plastic or is #39 still a "must have" for really dirty interiors?

Here in Sweden, these products costs way more than they do in the U.S.
Carpet & Interior Cleaner costs 150 kr (21$ USD) and #39 goes for almost 200 kr (30$ USD).
3 days ago I bought a gallon of All Surface Dressing, 670 kr (98$)

Just wanted to explain why I ask so much instead of just buying the products and try them out

      Regards

        Re: Carpet & Interior cleaner

I am in the same boat as you as far as affording their stuff, although, since using their stuff, it is the best.

I have read that All Purpose Cleaner (APC) is a great cleaner for everything and comes as a concentrate thus diluting to your liking. All surface dressing is good stuff but I read a lot use the Hyper Dressing for engine bays and what not and again is concentrate to dilute to your liking. I personally will try the distilled water as our tap water is full of minerals and other **** (Real pastureized water-Moo!) to see how it goes and cost worthy.

I have not tried the 39 but I am convinced that the carpet and interior cleaner in the pink bottle works great. I do plan on buying #40 rather than the 39 and use it by itself as I like the natrual shine look rather than the sun glaring in your face of other items.

I would cruise the "Show Off" and "Extreme Makeovers" and see what they use and come to your own conclusion.

My plans are to get a G100 and appropriate pads and whatnot, 83, 80 APC, Hyper Dressing, Wheel Brightner, NXT liquid, #21 and possibly #26 for my own needs.

I have read that a lot of people uses these items in their show off forums and extreme makeovers.

Take what I say with a grain of salt as I am no expert, and still in the learning stage and throwing out what I thought I knew and so far, my '00 Yukon looks better than when I bought it used, I am currently getting my self made and previous owners swirl marks out with ScratchX by hand (very time consuming, Honey you watching??? G100-G100-!!G100) and use the carpet interior cleaner on the inside and top off with Natural Shine, my interior looks better than ever. My tailights were very dull and oxidized and shined up very nice with PlastX as well as my headlights. Someone asked If I got my Yukon repainted which complimented my hand rubbing of ScratchX and it felt good. Needs more work that I don't think I can patiently do and will wait until I get my G100.

WHEN I get my G100 and the stuff needed (83, 80 etc) I will practice on our Kid's car left in the driveway that won't pass smog and not decided what to do with and see what I can do with the paint so I don't mess up my car. I will post efforts in the future and maybe shock everyone.

There are a lot of folks willing to help us who are proffesionals and look at their entries in the above mentioned forums as well as the rest and that should help.

My wife says I should sign up for a class, I told her it's in Irvine as there is a calling for detailers in our area and people ask me all the time to detail their car but need practice before I swirl their paint. She said, so...It's in Irvine, sounds like a road trip. She knows I want to get out of my current job and do what I love to do, make cars shine and with the right tools, heck I can rival Joe down there at Superior Shine (watch his and multiple others entries).......NOT LIKELY .

          Re: Carpet & Interior cleaner

Thanks for your help, I think I'll try both #39 (for vinyl/plastics) and Carpet/Interior Cleaner (upholstery) while waiting for APC.
According to Meguiar's here in Sweden it will probably take a month so I'll have plenty of time trying both products.

#40 is my favorite for both interior dressing and under the hood, I really like the smell and the finish it gives, like new!
I find the cleaners in #40 is enough for touch ups and interiors in somewhat good/average condition, but not enough for really dirty interiors.

I guess Hyper dressing would be great for dressing the engine, I will mainly use ASD for exterior trims and other places where a water based dressing wouldn't be as durable.
Hyper dressing is also on my list of "products to try".

I think you'll be really satified with a G100, probably a great machine to start with!
For practicing I would recommend you to try out #80, can't go wrong with that combination
I have never had any chance to try a G100, but I do own a Cyclo (dual head random orbital) as I use as a complement to the rotary.
