  • Cleat coat or CD plastic harder..?

Hi guys & gals. Do u think the car's clear coat is harder or a CD plastic. I've been playing around with cutting & polishing compound on my CD to remove scratches and it seems to work. I'm practicing with compound as I don't have any prior experiences with them. And maybe later I would be able to use it on my car's clear coat. The name of the compound is Nielsen A-Cut Paint Cutting Compound & Farecla G3 Paste Compound.

I'm using it with my RO. I was thinking if the CD is softer and it was still 1-2 passes b4 I could remove the scratch with the compound. I think it would not so aggressive on my paint clear coat rite, correct me if I'm wrong. I rub the compound with my fingers and its a bit rough like sand, but after a while it became soft like cream...? What it is.? Is it like those diminishing abrasive crystals? Thank you.

Your description of the way the product reacts under pressure over time is that they do in fact contain some type of diminishing abrasive. Not sure about the difference in hardness and softness between a clear coat finish and the plastic used to make CDs, good question though.
