Just wondering what the Meguiars equivalent to 3m finesse it finishing material would be.

    TIA

    Here's what 3M say's about it,

    3M™ Finesse-It™ II Finishing Material
"Designed for use on O.E.M. and fully cured automotive paints, can remove grade 1500 sand scratches and removes swirl marks after compounding, while leaving a glazed finish."

Probably the closest thing in the Meguiar's line would be the #84 Compound Power Cleaner used with a rotary buffer.

      Hey,

I have 3M FI-II. It is somewhat similar, but slightly more aggressive to that of Meg's #83. But FI-II does not have the polishing effect of the Meg's. In other words, I have found the #83 to leave a more "polished" finish.

        Tim,

Have you ever tried the FI-II with the PC? If so, what pad/speed? I have a bottle of this sitting around that I'm wondering if I could use instead of the DACP. It's on a 98 chevy with dark blue metallic paint. My plan is either FI-II or DACP followed by #9 then #7 then hi tech yellow wax (can't remember the #)

        Thanks again.

          Hey,

I have only used the FI-II with the rotary though I know people that have had decent success with the PC. If you want to use the PC, I would use a W-8006 Polishing Pad with the PC set to speed 5. You will need to really work the product until it is almost gone. Then I would use the #83 DACP with a fresh W-8006 Polishing Pad, PC also set to speed 5. Work the product until only a slight residue/dust remains. Follow with #9 or #82 with a W-9006 Finishing Pad. Glaze with #7 or #81 and top with #26 Hi Tech Yellow Wax.

One question: have you tried just #83 on a Polishing Pad? I question the value of adding the extra step of the FI-II. In fact, if the FI-II does not get worked enough, it may add a haze to the finish creating more work.

          If it were me:
          #83 + #9(#82) + #7(#81) +#20 topped after 12 hours with #26.

It will take some work, but the finish will be worth it!

            Tim,

Only reason that I was gonna use the FI-II is because I have some of it, and I don't have any #83. Sounds like I should just buy some #83.

            Thanks!
