  • car keyed--scratch rule?

wats up everyone... i wast just outside washing my car only to find that the right quarter and rear door of my RX-8 was keyed and was wonderiig what the rule was in regards to depth. i remember hearing somewhere that if u can catch ur nail in it then there is no hope but any feedback would be appreciated. PS i tried 3 apps. of scratchx with not even a dent. Ive heard that feather sanding might work as well so if this is my only option could someone show me an in depth write up on how to do that. i tried searching and all i got were before and after pics. thanks

Is it down to the primer? What color is the car? If it's deep and the car is not metallic, you may be able to do a decent job with touch up paint, some careful wet sanding, and polish.

I just do not understand why people do this? I would be afraid to buy a nice car b/c some idiot is ignorant and was probably raised incorrectly and has no respect for other people things!

Anyway, Ive removed scratches that I could catch with my nail. It was from off roading and I guess a tree got it when I wasnt looking. It just depends on the depth of the scratch. Mine was VERY minor and just barley caught. If you worked the scratch-x properly and couldn't tell a difference.. Touch-up paint and wet sanding may be the only option..

the car is whitewater pearl its wihte basecoat with green metallic paint.... i ordered touchup from the dealer but i dont know if ill be able to fix it because i dont have any experience.......if i had an in depth walkthrough like one of mike phillips writeups then i would have much more confidence taking this on...i dont want to bring it to the bodyshop to sand because then they will hit it with the rotary after and hologram the hell out of the whole side and i cant fix those yet.

anything u can feel with ur fingers would be pretty hopeless without a PC or rotary.... but for parts that you cant feel then those parts you can probably fix with just scratch X and a lot of passion..... even with a PC some of the deeper parts would still be there.... touching up key marks is very hard to do because its difficult to make it blend in... you would have to carefully wetsand the touch up paint to be level with the rest of the paint.... wet sanding would require a rotary to take out the sanding marks.... i wonder how much it would cost to just have that panel repainted.... that can be an option if it really bothers you a lot....

i have a PC and a rotary but i dont know how to use the rotary yet ive been waiting for the DVD. i have a pc with 80, 83 and old formula scratch x.... i tried scratch x by hand with no results. tommorrow i am going to go at it with everything ive got and see if it helps...... i would get it repainted but then the body shop would put horrible holograms in the paint and then that would be worse than the little scratch.. so i would rather try not to take that route even though it may come to it regardless of what i do

take the panel off if its possible and just send that to the body shop? hahahha the swirls and hologram you can fix after you get it back anyways and its not all body shops that mess up the detail part.... just some.... but yah take the pc and 83 to it and see what happens.... hope it comes out.... maybe it will if its a real light one....

i would send just the panel out but then the metallic would not match right.... 83 and pc didnt do anything so my only option would be to sand it out i guess.
