  • the differences #9,80,82,83...etc

i'm new to detailing, and jsut started couple months ago. After all the studies and read through Meguiars' website and forum, i tested it on my car by going through basic 5 steps with the step 1,2,3 products, and the result turned out great. However, the hardest part for me is swirl and all the light scratches...i have tried Swirl Remover 2.0 (#9), and older version of ScratchX and followed the directions by hand, somehow the result wasn't so "effective", because there are too many. Moreover, i found that there are similar products for removing swirls and scratches such as #9,80,82,83 ...and more, never try all of those but i can't seem to tell the differences, so im' wondering which product is the most effective one for removing swirls and scratches??? is it really that much easier and better to work wtih "Dual Action Polisher" ???

    Hi Nava405,

    Welcome to Meguiar's Online!

You're questions are good and questions that have all been asked many times on this forum. Most people are not successful at removing swirls and scratches out of their car's paint for two reasons,
    1. Improper application technique
    2. It's difficult to remove swirls by hand even if you use the right technique

This is one of the reasons machine polishing has become so popular among serious enthusiasts, they find it's less about them and more about the paint and the hardness of the paint to be specific.

Many people purchase #9 to remove swirls because the front of the label says Swirl Remover and the back of the label says Can be used by hand, then they are disappointed in their results. Note the picture on the front label and look at the tool being used to apply the product? It's a rotary buffer. Sure the product can be applied by hand but best results when it comes to removing defects, and by this we mean removing paint, are had when applied with something that offers the power to remove some paint.

Anyway, it's 4:30am as this is being typed and time to head to Meguiar's to set-up for our Saturday class. Here are some articles for you to read and we're sure others will chime in also...

What it means to remove a scratch out of anything...

this is insane ..replied at 4am lol...anyway, i searched on forum about all swirls and scratches for the past couple months, and read through as many threads as i could, i guess the best way for me probably would be see some demonstration in person and put in some money and get a duel action polisher.

You could just buy the DVD Mike put together that demonstrates the use of the PC:

I have seen it about 6 times now, taking meticulous notes.
