Buying the PC, using megs, products, what pads do i buy?

I'm ordering the PC random orbit. I have fresh black paint and will be using the Meguires #83, #80, and #21 combo.(as long as that sounds right to you guys...any better ideas?)

My question is, what pads and how many do i order with my pc random orbit? I don't mind spending the money to do it right..... so what pad/backings/bonnets/ etc. should i order with my pc random orbit so i can start on my car right away???

Since over here M'sia we don't have the PC. I can't tell u much bout the backing plate or bonnet. Sorry. But for the pads maybe u can get a few since its quite cheap there. Ur combos are great stuffs. All Rise of the Titan. Hehehe. Merry Christmas & Happy New Year. Take care.

If you are getting the Porter Cable branded PC, in addition to Meguiars pads you will also need a backing plate.

Dual-Action Polisher Backing Plates

There is also a value pack with a backing plate and 3 Meguiars foam pads: DA Velcro Buffing System. EDIT: for some reason this link isn't working but you might give them a call, I would guess this package is still available.

Welcome to Meguiar's Online!

If you're working on fresh paint, most paint manufacture recommend that you not apply a wax until after the first 30 days. If the paint is at least 30 days old the your process looks correct except if you're working on fresh paint, as in a new paint job, why do you need products like M83 and M80? These are for removing below surface defects and a brand new paint job shouldn't have any below surface paint defects?

The car is actually full of defects.... The paint was put on perfectly but i payed a shop to wet sand and polish the car(because i had 1 1/2 gallons of clear put on) they rid the paint of orange peel, but left "holograms" everywhere.

The car is also kept in a VERY dusty atmoshpere that leaves the car COVERED in dirt/leaves after one week. Needless to say, washing a car that dirty, once a week with no protective layers does ugly things to paint.... I know, i should have/could have done things different, but whats done is done.

I suppose thats why i have 5 layers of clear after all!!! Plenty to work with!!!!!

ok..one more question!

Should i buy a 5 inch backing and use 6 inch pads, or can i get the 6 inch backing and use 8 inch pads?!

Edge 2000 pads.. there is not contest here. next best pads would be Lake County

Edge 2k pads are very high quality, as well as double sided so you are getting 2 pads for the price of 1.3 pad. Instead of a backing plate it uses a locking adapter which means your pads always centered.

Remember when polishing and compounding to start at the least agressive to get the job done. If you have fresh piant you may not need to start with the most agressive compound.

But doesn't it seem like buying that kit is a waste of money? It comes with THREE cutting pads. From what i've read on this site, it is not a good idea to use a cutting pad of any sort with the meguires 83, 80, PC combo...

Opinions? Also, w/ the M83, M80, and M21 steps, what and how many pads do i need? thanks!!!

edit- also, do they sell/make the m21 in SMALLER sizes???
