  • Question about ScratchX

I picked up a tube of ScratchX today (not the new and improved stuff, but no matter). I played around with it on the door handle cups and a few problem spots on my wife's car, but I had a terrible time removing it. Is this stuff just really hard to remove or am I over-looking something obvious here? It finally cleaned up with a little DC#1 and it seemed to work fantastically, but I just want to make sure this isn't due to my inherent ignorance. Thanks for your help...

Did you let it dry, or work it in till a clearish grease, then remove right away?

      Re: Question about ScratchX

As per the directions I let it dry. After I had such trouble with my first spot, on my second attempt I tried applying it and wiping it right off and seemed to have similar results.

Don't let it dry. One of the things they changed about ScratchX was changing the packaging instructions. That is to say, you dont need to let it dry. Apply, work it in with passion, remove.

Well, you got a real old tube with a typo.... It isnt supposed to dry.

Not sure about your second attempt, if you applied it, broke it down till it was greasy clear, the nwiped off, it should be ok. Was the paint very neglected?

Yeah, the paint's in less than decent shape...its my wife's car (that's why I'm practicing on it, lol).

Well, if the paint was real rough, maybe needs clayed, the ScratchX could be getting caught in the roughness.. How smooth does it seem now that you are done? Still bumpy?

Nah, the last spot that I worked on I started over and clayed, went over it again with the scrachx, DC#1, #2, NXT....looks great. -Tony

                  Re: Question about ScratchX

I had almost the same problem two days ago with ScratchX. I put it on a 2x2 section and let it sit for about a minute, went to wipe it off and it left a cloudy appearance where it was applied. So, I hit the same spot with it again and wiped off right away. This cleaned it right up. Hope this helps.
