  • Dos Saliva?

I just bought a used Lincoln Avaitor. I got a great deal on it and it looks great. Except for some stains on the paint. I asked the guy I bought it from what it was and he said Dog Saliva! I have tried to use paint cleaners, polishes and waxes to no avail. Any ideas? Does that stuff ruin paint? Thanks

      Re: Dos Saliva?

I had a dog saliva stain on a truck of mine a few years ago. I never tried too hard to get it off but it never went away after many washes and applications of NXT. My dog died shortly after the stain, so I kinda didn't want to remove it.

I would treat it just like bird droppings. Try some ScratchX.

The correct product would be a paint cleaner because what you need to do is to remove paint. You need to remove enought paint to remove the etching/stain.

The reason most people don't get good results when using a paint cleaner is because they simply wipe it on and then wipe it off somehow thinking the porudct is going to magically do the work.

The truth is that the way you make a paint cleaner work is "you" have to put a little passion behind you applicator pad when applying it.

Can't tell you how many people have come to one of our Saturday classes or our Wednesday night classes, shown us a bird dropping etching, told us they tried ScratchX and it didn't work and then we try ScratchX and it works just fine.

It's all about using the right technique and the right product. You say you've used a paint cleaner. What is the name of the paint cleaner you used? Was it ScratchX? How did you apply it?

The stains are on the rear passanger side door.

Pick up a tube of ScratchX and after cleaning the area, take and apply some ScratchX, about a teaspoon of product to either a foam or microfiber applicator and work a small area, about 4-5 inches small, which we'll guess would include a stained area. Work the product against the paint using some pressure, like about 8 pounds or so, go push down on a bathroom scale to see how much this is.

Work the product quickly, like back and forth, really put some passion into the process. Do this three times to the same section and then inspect it.

If it's better but not gone all the way, the repeat till it's gone.

If there is no change after three applications, take it to a detailer who knows how to use a rotary buffer and see if they can remove it. Don't let them buff out your entire car however, just fix the spot.

Thanks for the info,Mike. I guess the same technique would apply to removing eggs.
I've had my car "egged" a couple of times during the night by some individual and I've had good results with your "Deep Crystal" car wash. Generous applications of warm soap got rid of the eggs and shell.
The shell was the hardest to remove, for some reason.

Thankfully, I had put three coats of your wax on the car before it got egged. I'd say that helped prevent a lot of damage.
