I ordered some of that to give it a try. I like the info I get here better, so I imagine it will go on the shelf.

        Two things for sure,

        1) Single stage paints really react well to Meguiar's pure polishes, there's a reason #7 Show Car Glaze has been around for over 70 years.

        2) No other company including Zaino offers a pure polish like the #7 Show Car Glaze.

When it comes to creating a beautiful finish on paint, richness of color, gloss and a deep, wet shine are the attributes people love the most. Can't think of a way to get these kind of results with a single stage finish without the use of a pure polish.

1960 Corvette - How To Restore Single Stage Acrylic Lacquer Paint

We often see questions about how to work on older single stage paints like Lacquer paint, or which product to use on non-clearcoated single stage paint.

Hopefully this little write-up will share with you the products and techniques to safely work on single stage paints like the 20 year old acrylic lacquer finish on this restored 1960 Corvette.

First, when we arrived and looked at this car while it was parked in the garage, the finish looked really nice as does the overall car.

However, after asking the owner/restorer to drive the car out into the sun where we can better see a more accurate representation of the true condition of the paint, here's what our camera captures...

Here are some before and after pictures after applying one very well worked-in pass of M80 Speed Glaze on this single stage lacquer paint with no wax applied as of yet.

        Before Side

        After Side

We found that because the lacquer paint was fairly soft, it was easy to remove about 95% of all of the swirls and scratches using M80 Speed Glaze with Meguiar's W-8006 Foam Polishing Pad on the G100 at the 5.0 setting.

After machine cleaning and polishing the finish to perfection, (or close to it), we then apply two coats of NXT Tech Wax Liquid using a W-9006 Foam Finishing pad on the G100 at the 3.0 setting.

After both coats of wax had fully dried and the Swipe Test indicated the wax was ready to remove, we use a Meguiar's microfiber bonnet on a clean, dry W-7006 Foam Cutting pad to remove the wax. We then removed our painters tape and pulled the Corvette out into the sun for some after shots.

Finished off with two coats of NXT Tech Wax Liquid Applied by Machine

I think you're copying and pasting the "Page" URL the pictures are located on and what I did was "Right Click" on the image itself and copy and paste the "Image URL"

            AND

Removed everything in the code for the Image URL after the .jpg

Wow! The difference your work made to that black car is unreal! I did a small test section on mine, but I guess I need to rub harder. I'll let you know how I make out!

That's the power of machine polishing over hand polishing, plus choosing the right products as well as using good technique. The car still looks just as good today as the owner Steve does a good job of maintaining the finish. It can usually be seen cruising at the Donut Derelicts on Saturday mornings in Huntington Beach.

                  Hi again Mike

I am going to get the Porter Cable polisher. Could you tell me what pad p/ns I need to get going with the products that you recommended? And any other stuff I may want to pick up.

                  Thanks again!

                    For a G100/PC I would just use a w8006 Meguiar's W-8006 Foam Polishing Pad

and a good ol' bottle of #80
                    #80 Speed Glaze

This in conjunction with a G100 will achieve GREAT results

Also check this out, this will show you how the products are used...

Hi guys i am new to the site, well actually been reading through it for a few days before registering.

                          Rick

I have a 1977 corvette with just over 12,000 origanal mile. It has never been driven in rain .
I have owned the car since 1983 and have never washed with anything but water and only ever used #7 on it.
