So as a Thanksgiving present I told my mom I'd detail her '84 Mercedes SL280. A few months ago BG (Before Meguiars) I did my dad's SLK with some other products. Managed to remove about 60% of the the swirls. Was still new to technique. Both my parents have been guilty of dreadful wash technique which I am trying to break them of.
Anyway, with 80 and 83 in hand I went to work. The car is light beige, hard to see the swirls unless directly in the sun but boy they were there.
In true Meguiars fashion I taped off an area and began with 80. I could see after a while that although the swirls were diminishing I would probably need a more aggressive product. At this point I decided to test out a couple of other manufacturer's products (GASP!) that I had laying around to see how they would fare.
Optimum polish and OC were just not getting the job done on a white LC pad so it was time to go to 83 on a yellow polishing pad.
I was amazed at the results. I got rid of about 90% of the scratches and the rest I think only a rotary would get out. It looked absolutely fantastic! I found it very easy to work with. Cleaned my pad frequently on a microfiber and one thing I found that seemed to give me a long work time was to use small areas, of course, and just before I would make a pass over a particular zone I would move the PC quickly across the zone to spread out a sort of fresh layer of product, then went over that zone slowly.
The finish was LSP ready and I went right to #21. I wish I had some pictures but I always forget to take them. Anyway, I am truly a fan of 83.

Oh, I should mention that I did wash and clay the car first and tape it off. Those old cars sure have a lot of things that need taping!
