....and had the shock of my life!
Went to the car earlier, and I was greeted by a 2 nice splats from the little birdie on car. What a way to start the day!
So, obviously, there was etching left to help me remember where the little birdie decided on target practice..
Went back, logged on to Meguiars.com, and re-read the steps to take for using Scratch X. Got out the tube of Scratch X that I've had for some months now, but have not used it. Not that there weren't swirls to be removed, but I was more worried about using it wrongly.
So with lots of hope, and the following, I decided to try it and hope for the best:
3pcs Microfibre
1 bot Step 2 Polish
1 bot Step 2 Carnauba Wax
3 pcs polishing pads
1 tube Scratch X
1 bot QD
So, first, QD-ed and wiped down the area. Next, with heart pounding, squeezed a little Scratch X on a polishing pad. I realised that there was no mention on the Scratch X thread on the amount to be used.
So used just a little squeeze, about the size of the nail on the last finger, held my breath, and started to work the formula into the etch marks in a circular fashion.
Noticed that as i continued, the area became matt, instead of shiny. That's when I panicked, as thoughts of a couple of thousands on a new paintwork came flooding into my mind like a tsunami....
Again, I tried remembering if the post on using Scratch X had mentioned this, but, no. So, remembering the wonders of QD, I sprayed some on it, but to no avail.
Being in a despairing state, I decided to continue with the steps outlined in the post on these forums, and used the polish on the area.
Lo and behold! I was a happy bunny, cos I could see that the area's 'matt'finish was 'disappearing. Proceeded to wipe off the polish, and worked the wax into the area, as indicated in the post.
Waited an agonising 10 minutes or so, used the Swipe Test, and started to clean off the wax.
Suffice it to say, I could hardly see the etching any more, and my faith in Meguiars'products has been re-affirmed. Not that it needed re-affirming in the first place!
