  • Interior cleaning question

Hi there, been asked by a friend to detail his Ferrari 360, and I went by to have a look at it.

Noticed that the interior has a rubber-like material that is sticky to the touch. Anyone detailed a 360 before, and know what the material is? More importantly, which of the Meguiar interior cleaners is suitable for use?

Thanks a whole bunch. Got a free dinner waiting for me when I am done with it...

    Re: Interior cleaning question

My best advice is to use NXT Generation Tech Protect, which will clean, condition, and protect all vinyl, rubber, and plastic surfaces on the car's interior. Also get come PlasticX for clear plastic surfaces like plexiglass or the clear plastic in front of the guages. Since its a supercar, there's bound to be some chrome and/or wood-grain trim in it, so the NXT Generation All-metal Polysh will help with the chrome.

      Re: Interior cleaning question

Thanks for the tip. My only concern is that the interior is not made from any of that stuff, and I wouldn't want to be the one who fouls up the interior.

From what I can remember, there are no wood panels. Mostly covered in leather, and some metal parts

First off, I would need pictures of the interior to see what kind of material it is (or at least a model year).

One important question... is it supposed to be sticky? Or does it have some gunk on that would need cleaned off?

Murr, as far as I can ascertain from what he is saying, it appears to be a leather interior: leather seats and either true leather or synthetic leather trim.

be very gentle on the leather, and please don't put anything shiney on the interior!
i use the leather conditioner from the detailer line, and just use the quick interior detailer on everything else after you have cleaned it. you do not need tons of u.v. protectant in todays cars and a car should look clean not slimey.

as for prior uses, 2 bently gt's 3 bently flying spurs, masserati quattroporte,
ferrarri 575m,360 modena, all with the same type of interior. these clients want cars that do not look like they came from a used car lot.
good luck, and please don't think i was bragging but i have been lucky enough that after 6 years to have a steady stream of these cars!

Yeah I would not use Tech Protect on it, at least not to start with. If it's some sticky dirt on it I would start by wiping everything down with APC 10:1 and
some lukewarm water, without getting it wet or damp. Then try some Quick interior detailer on the dash. On the leather seats etc I would use Meguiars conditioner.

Murr1525, I don't think it's supposed to be sticky. I've sat in a new car, and I don't recall it being so.

Mnaines, you're right. So far as I can recall, it's leather seats, dash. For the aircon vents, the ring controlling the amount of air has a rubbery feel, kinda grimy to me, so that may be of a rubber material. The part that is sticky, is on the arm-rest on the door, where the locks and handles are.

The Shine Shop, that's a garage I would love to be part of!

Since the Modena is one you have worked on, do you recall the parts that I have listed above being rubbery/grimy? Since your reply indicates using the quick interior detailer, I take it that it worked then.

I bought me a bottle of Natural Shine Vinyl and Rubber Protectant, and tried it. For the aircon vent controller, I noticed that the surface became shiny and oily to the touch. I suppose that's the wrong thing to use then
