Re: Can Meguiar's save my car's paint job?

Murr, yes, it is slow going. Outdoor ambient temperature usually stays below 60 degrees Farenheit, but I make sure to keep the car in the sun to compensate. I am doing one section of the car at a time, working at it until I get the thing to reflect images of the house or of the trees in my yard. My parents have a beige-colored Nissan Maxima that reflects images like a mirror, and that's how I'm trying to get mine. One final question: Would any of Meguiar's products get rid of bug stains, bird droppings, or tree sap that have been "baked" into the paint?

Well, I am done. Used the ColorX first, then the Deep Crystal Cleaner, then Deep Crystal #2, then the NXT Generation Tech Wax; applied each with a foam sponge, diaper cloth, and Meguiar's Supreme Microfiber; dried with a seperate Supreme Microfiber, and buffed with the Meguiar's Duo-Fiber Micro Fiber.

I will get some pictures later.

Here is a pic of the car after it was treated with ColorX, Deep Crystal Cleaner, Deep Crystal #2, and NXT Generation Tech Wax.

That is the best I could get it by hand. The reflection from the glass is thanks to Meguiar's NXT Generation Glass Cleaner.

Here is another pic of the glass:

In this shot, it shows the results of the ColorX, Deep Crystal Cleaner, Deep Crystal #2, and NXT Generation Tech Wax on the paint and the NXT Generation Glass Cleaner on the windows and mirrors. The sun was behind me and a little to the right in that pic.

Are you happy with the results?

Well, yes and no. I'm happy its showing improvement, but at the same time, I know it could be better. Now I'm just trying to figure out what will get those splotches out, since ColorX doesn't seem to work on them. Those splotches are what's left over from the overcoating of clearcoat. Honestly, though, you can't really see the splotches anymore unless you look at the car from the right angle. If you just look straight at it with the sun at your back, it looks like the car is brand new. I'm not too overly concerned with the final results since I do not plan on entering any car shows at this time. By the way, how often do you have to apply a fresh coating of the NXT Generation Tech Wax, and how often should you use the NXT generation Tech Wax Quik Detailer?

The Spray wax can be used after washing, to restore that fresh waxed kind of look.

Incidently, I notice you dont mention claying. The next time you want to go and clean/polish/wax again, use the clay before cleaning, and it might help as well. It certainly got gunk off my car even when it was brand new.

But if those splotches are actualy clear coat peeling like yo usay, then those spots are always going to stay the same.

Murr, the clear coat is not peeling. Those splotches are actually from an overcoating of clearcoat. I did clay the car, but that did nothing to the clearcoat overspray. I am going to see if bug/tar remover takes it off, or is that stuff too intense?
