  • Which Applicator Pad?

In Mike's article about using Scratch X, he suggested applying the product with a foam pad. Might a microfiber or terry pad work better to remove scratches than a foam pad?

I had problems with DACP scratching when I tried to apply it by hand on my clearcoated black Harley Davidson tank. I was using a microfiber pad at the time. Could this have been the problem?

I guess the basic question is -- when do you use what?

I know there are some that recommend using microfiber pads for removing scratches with paint cleaners, the problem I think most people will run into is that in order to remove a scratch by hand, the pressure required that you apply in order to remove small particles of paint in an effort to remove the defect will be enough that it will instill scratches if you're using any type of fiber application material such as microfiber or 100% cotton terry cloth.

It will also vary between paints due to hardness and thus scratch sensitivity

Just for fun, I'll do some testing on some clear coated black paint panels.
