  • Question about applying polish

Vehicle is a new car (red). It was on dealer's lot for a couple of months and definitely needed to be clayed, so I clayed it, applied the cleaner/wax, then NXT liquid wax. Good results.

After spending some time on this forum, I now realize I should have polished before waxing. Do I need to remove the existing wax to apply polish?

    Thanks,
    Ken

    Re: Question about applying polish

What cleaner/wax did you use? All of Meguiars cleaner/wax's also contain polishing oils.

Now, if you want to go with a 3 step process, a seperate cleaner, polish, and wax, that is fine also, and 3 seperate steps can give better results.

As far as applying a seperate polish, you dont have to use a cleaner first, but I'm never sure if all the polish really gets to the paint with wax still there. Some folks say it does, some say it doesnt.

I'd just enjoy your results for now, then use a full 3-step process for your next detail if you want to give it a try.

      Re: Question about applying polish

I used the Meguiars cleaner-wax that came with the clay kit. It worked good for getting most of the waterspots off. The waxed with NXT.
I've never used a separate "polish", but after reading this forum and the Meguiar's site, I think I could get a better deeper shine by polishing.
You're right though, especially now that the colder weather is here I might as well wait 'til spring, then clay, polish and wax.
