  • Jeep Grand Cherokee Headlights

I tried wet sanding the headlights of my 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee and was to happy with the results. I used 1500 and it did not seem to do much to the badly oxided parts of the headlight. I then tried Plastx with a rotary and still could not remove the oxidation.

    Here is the after picture:

    Any sugestions?

Buy new ones. I have a 99 that were horrible, couldn't hardly see any light on the road. I tried everything and they didn't come out good at all. I bought a brand new pair off ebay for around $100 including shipping. You might want to consider that if you plan on buying any kits to refinish yours.

I wish I new what the dealer used on my sisters Jeep, cause they looked really bad, I mean bad too. But the day we were looking at her jeep they where cleaning the Headights... aka spraying something greasy like on the headlights and leaving it on for a day or two. The next day we bought the Jeep and her headlights are still looking brand new. I need to go back and ask them what they used, cause it felt like tire shine almost really greasy like.

oh and hers was a 2000 Laredo with that metalic burgandy paint

I did mine headlights (sorry no pictures) and I did starte with a coarser sand paper. Try this:
            • Use a LOT of water with some car wash soap.
            • 600 until you remove all the oxidation
            • Use 800, 1000, 1500, 2000 and 2500 (I know it is a lot) to mooth the surface
            • Get a Mothe'rs powerball, plug it in your drill and with PlastX do the final polish.
If you follow the procedure properly you can rescue that headlight

I'm very happy with them. I tried sending you a pm with the ebay link but you aren't accepting pm's. Got them off ebay from Dr. Auto Parts.

                  x2 Agree!

                  Dont Buy New Ones!!!

You need to really get some corse sand paper to cut through the grime and grit thats eaten away at the light.

Use 600, until all the grime is gone, then use 800 until all the 600 scratches are gone, then 1200, etc... after you get to 1500 or 2000, Use plastix on a wool pad on a slow speed, or foam pad, which ever you have.

Mine were about like yours before I polised them... here they are today...
