  • What's best product after #20 ???

I was using #80 to remove swirl mark then apply #20, do I need a final layer of carnauba wax or that's good enough ? If needed a final wax then what wax works best with #20 and produce brilliant shine?

    Hi Vincent,

M20 is a great product, it's been around for many year and provides great protection with some light cleaning ability. The best thing to do would be to inspect the quality of the finish after you've applied and removed the last coat of this wax and decide if it meets your expectations.

While ti does leave an exceptional finish, sometimes on darker colors, products like NXT Tech Wax, M26, Gold Class and M21 can leave a darker, richer in color, more clear finish.

I have a silver car and I always top #20 w/ #26 (actually, I top #21 and NXT w/ #26 as well). The #26 adds depth to the reflection created w/ the polymer based protectant.

I've used #20 and/or #26 by themselves many times over the years. At 2hotford's suggestion I recently tried #26 over #20 and I am extremely impressed! The finish is very clear, but also very deep. It's very reflective but at the same time has that wet look. Also the surface is very slick. Rainwater beads, but when you drive the water runs right off the paint, leaving a surprisingly clean surface.

I used #26 on my dad's '89 Bonneville. I would apply an extra layer every month or two. Well, all of a sudden it started smearing like crazy! It turns out that old layer of #26 was still there so I was simply applying too much too soon. I had to apply #9 and start over to get rid of the smears. The #26was lasting much longer than I thought. You can layer, but you can also get too much of a good thing and apply too many layers. My point is that #26 is more durable than many realize.

I like #26 as a topper because it has no cleaners in it to remove what is already on the paint. But again, don 't get carried away and apply layer after layer, as it is not necessary.

2hotford also suggested #21 over #20. I still have some sections left to wax on my GTO, so I will try that too on some panels. I love #21 so I am very interested to see how it looks. Observing the finish over the winter will provide a good comparison of durability and protection.

The key to getting #26 over #20 to look great is surface prep. You need to clay if there are rough spots (surface contaminants). I apply #80 with the PC to get swirls and scratches out of the paint and provide polishing oils. If the swirls are more severe, I use the reformulated #2 by PC before the #80 which really enhances the gloss.

I used to use #20 as my final step. It leaves a real nice slick feel and great shine. I did recently top it with #26 and I think it looks even better. #26 definetly makes the paint look even wetter and slicker. I say give #26 a try.

Does it make sense by applying sealant on top of sealant ?
