  • Pinstripes...

Hey i was wondering if any of you guys have advice for working around painted on pinstripes. The problem is that i had to have the passenger side of my bed resprayed, and the idiots in the body shope left swirls and scratches everywhere, and then pinstriped over them. I tried using some speed glaze over them, until i realized that it would prolly take the pinstripes off seeing as how they are above the clear.

So does anyone have any advice. The scratches are deep enough that the ones that i could get to, took 3 applications of speed glaze to even begin to take them off. Is the ford clearcoat that hard? Or are they that deep?

    Thanks guys,

There's no easy way to do this.

Quick question, are the pinstripes painted on or adhesive tape?

Worst case scenario is you get a Swirl Finder Light and show them their low quality and unacceptable work and then ask them to show you how a person can go about removing the swirls without damaging the pinstripes.

    Two things,

First, they probably won't know how to remove the swirls, if they did know how then the question becomes why did they put them in in the first place.

Second, after you educate them on the proper tools and procedure to remove the swirls out of the paint they'll thank you and then clearly see the difficulty of the process.

It could be they'll have to remove the pinstripes, allow you to fix their mistake, and then re-apply the pinstripes. If only people that are paid to work on paint only knew how easy it is to do it right way the first time.

They were painted on. It was part of the custom shop at my local dealer. If they were vinyl I would probably just peel them off. The problem is that the work was done a month ago, i just haven't really had the chance to go about seeing if the stripes were above or below the clear, and also how bad the swirls/scratches were. I was truly amazed that after 3 applications they were still there, and very noticeable.

After a month, do you think a body shop would stand behind there work? Or am i going to get the run-around where they say that i introduced them?
