  • Detailing "Polished" Rims?

I recently installed a set of 2006 SRT 8 Charger rims on my car. I was wondering what everyone suggested for taking care of them. I've seen polishs for different types of metals etc. but wasn't sure which to use. These rims are listed as polished, so I'm not exactly sure what that means as far as which product to use.

Any suggestions on cleaning the wheels, protecting, etc would be greatly appreciated. Below is a photo of the rims so that you can make sense of my jumbled text and see what I'm working with.

I had just polished a set of 4X4 rims which were alloy with a clear coat on them.
They where very dull and scratched.
The process I did was to use #80 on a 4 inch pad on the end of my drill
What excellent results it did ,they where like brand new again.
The way I looked at it, you polish clear coat on your car why not use the same process on you rims.
If your rims are straight alloy with no coating on them then you will need to keep on top of them as in polish, polish
The way to tell is put a bit of alloy polish on a cloth and rub it on your rim ,if it turn black, then you no they are straight alloy

If those are factory wheels, they are clear coated. Clear coat is paint without pigment.

If you want to verify that your wheels are clear coated, wash them and rub in a little cleaner wax or polish. If your polishing cloth turns BLACK, you have bare metal. If the cloth doesn't turn black, it's clear coat.

(For a reference, apply cleaner wax or Nxt Metal Polish to your exhaust tip.)

Clean and protect your clear coated wheels just like paint. I've clayed mine, followed by Meguiar's Cleaner Wax (I've got five bottles of it) followed by #21.

Thanks for the advice. It seems that they are clearcoated and I'll take care of them as such.

        Thanks again!
