I have a 94 Vette black base coat clear coat. I have maintained it with Meguiar's products since I purchaced it in 94 and it looks great. Recently I cleaned it with Meguiar's #2 cleaner using a polisher as I have done many times. I wanted to get the area around and in the Corvette emblem so I put some #2 on a terry towel and rubbed it by hand. BIG MISTAKE! Now I have scratch marks around and in my emblem. I tried using some Meguiar's #9 swirl remover by hand to remove the scratches but that didn's seem to help. How can I remove these scratches by hand?

Hi ghill,
Welcome to Meguiar's Online!
I'm sorry to have to welcome you onboard when your first post is to ask for help removing scratches...
When you say #2 Cleaner do you mean M-0216 Fine Cut Cleaner?
A couple of things,
Removing scratches around an emblem like that is going to be difficult because the emblem will limit your hand strokes as you attemt to work them out. The best way to remove them would be to first remove the emblem, then remove the scratches, add some wax and the replace the emblem. My experience with Corvette emblems is that they are difficult to remove.
Chances are good that the scratches were instilled using the terry cloth. This is because clear coat finishes are what Meguiar's calls, Scratch-Sensitive, this mean although clear coats are typically much harder than traditional single stage finishes, they still scratch very easily.
ScratchX is going to be your best bet for removing these scratches by hand. Read this little how-to article I wrote on using ScratchX by hand to remove defects.

Another tip that might help you in the future, is to test the softness and safety factor of your towels by rubbing them on a Blank Compact Disc! (The recordable side of course)
If the towel scratches the disc...I would not use it on your paint!
You can check M/F towels this way as well!
Sorry to hear you have these scratches!
It's a drag!
My Dad said once..."Son...you can never do enough for a good customer!" I Said "Don't worry Dad...I won't"!
Hehehehe

Thanks to all for the quick responses.
Yes, I was referring to the Fine Cut Cleaner as #2. I will never apply it whith a terry cloth towel again!
I will give the Scratch X a try. If I can't get into all the areas I need to with the applicator is it safe to apply Scratch X with a Meguiar's micro fiber towel?
How does Scratch X compare to the #2 Fine Cut Cleaner and the #9 Swirl remover as far as abrasiveness?
Thanks again for the help. I know what I will be doing this 4th of July weekend.
