  • Don't Laugh...Baby Shampoo?

I did a good wash/clay/polish/ 2 coats of #26 on my Tahoe 3 weeks ago. It's since rained a couple times and I have used my Quik Detailer to polish her up again. I think this weekend, it will be time for a carwash again.

Everytime I wash my car using Gold Class shampoo, my paint feels squeaky clean which leads me to believe the wax is gone. Water no longer beads and it no longer feels slick.

The other day I was giving my kids a bath and I looked at my Johnson&Johnson Baby Shampoo Bottle. It suds up nicely and is safe and gentle for a baby's skin. Maybe if I used this to wash my car, it wouldn't strip off so much wax???? Has anyone ever tried this?

What about just mixing some Baby Shampoo in a squirt bottle and using THAT instead of Quik Detailer????? Christmas time is coming so I need to save as much $$$ as I can.

So, sorry for the long thread. Am I just crazy or is this a good idea???/

P.S. I've even thought about using a mild dilution of water and Diet Sprite to spread on my car as a Pre Wash. I figure the solution would be mildly acidic but it is Diet so no sugar is present. Maybe that would do a good job of breaking up dirt on my car's surface? I know ya'll use a foam gun but I wanted something a little more powerful to break up dirt...

    Thoughts???

I'm too tired right now but...

If it rains out and you drive in the rain, you need to wash you car, not quick detail it. That is probably why your wax is gone. Wash it weekly, and if it rains.
Let's make all of the cars shiny!

The Gold Class Shampoo is not what's taking the wax off your car. It is formulated to be very gentle and not remove wax. For the past three years this is the only car shampoo I've used and it has never once removed 20, 21, NXT, 16 or anything else I've had on my car.

I also agree with TH0001 that a QD spray is not designed for removing the sort of dirt you will have after driving your car in the rain. QD sprays are really intended for light dust only.
