orbital buffers anyone?

i found these orbital buffer, Black & Decker WP900 6" Random Orbit Waxer/Polisher. anyone using this kind of machine? it's fairly cheap compared to PC but can it be used with professional line say #80 & #83? can the pads of meguiars be attached to this? i cant find a PC here in the philippines so i was wondering if this machine can come a bit close to PC.

Hi. This B&D cannot use the PC pad but comes with his own blue foam applicator which wrap up type. I have the applicator but I don't have the machine. It's quite thin but quite ok to use. But I would buy some velcro then use glue to glue the velcro onto the surface plate. Then you can use the normal pad velcro type already. This is what I do with my Bosch backing plate. But this B&D doesn't have variable speed one. But I think we sometime have to use what we can only get lo. Hehehe. I was thinking of getting it too. Do let me know how it i, if you buy it. Thks.

And I am not sure the 6" would fit the rubber plate snug enough to work. I believe if Meguiars still offered these bonnets and they worked it would be a great little tool for waxing but as the other thread says it can't do much else! That doesn't worry me much because the time and the even spread of the wax it really was better then my hand. Just my 2 cents!

hi Bernard, Actually, I have always waxed by hand but now that I am so busy with work and have two cars I just don't have the time or energy anymore so I purchased the B and D. Of course I wanted the PC but living in Bangkok - well you know the rest. I used it this weekend and I was pleasantly surprised how well it worked. I started at 7am and thought it may bug my neighbors but it is so quiet and the vibration seems normal and as it should. As far as I was concerned it didn't vibrate all that much. I first put wax on half of my hood and then did the other half, roof and side using the B & D and I could really tell the difference between how much better and evenly my coat of wax went on with the machine. BY hand I used way too much product compared to using the machine. Also, getting it off I used the lamb wool it comes with to take it off and a Meguiars Fiber Towel. Just watch out when you put the wax applicator bonnet on because you can tear it quite easily. The great thing is you can buy refillers at your local store which is quite handy. They say you should buy 1 for each wax but you can wash your buffer pads. For me the little investment was worth it. It was about 2,500 baht which is 35 usd about.

Uh, does anybody know how to ship one buffer and one cleaning cloth from China to Wyoming? I think I need a couple of forms and declarations for customs. Do I pay with a letter of credit?

but meguiars only offers 6.5" and the B&D polisher is just 6". i heard u can destroy a pad easily if your not using the same size. and btw, thanks for the reply, it really helped a lot coz i have no clue about this machine. thanks man.

so it is a good buy for it's price? im sorry if i asked alot of questions here. i just want to put my money where i can really use it. it's kinda hard to find a PC here in philippines & i cant afford 1 to purchase online. im thinking about buying a rotary but that machine cost a lot of money! makita rotary costs about P13,000 and so far $1 = P50 (you do the math) the B&D here cost about P3,500 only i really appreciated your answers here. thanks man

Thks a lot guys. Maybe I'll try it out too. Over here in M'sia it's bout RM180-199. Plus another set of applicator pad free. But I think you don't use the wool pad to wipe the wax, I thought the wool pad is for cutting compound...? Maybe you can get Meguiars pad. Since it's 6.5 you can insert a sponge in between. This is what I do with the B&D pad on my bosch backing plate. Hehehe.

I have Black & Decker KP600 whick looks like the WP900. I guess it was the older model. Anyway, i just checked and found both have the same specs. even the speed 4400 rpm. It is a great little machine But the G100 still a winner which i also have

Hi amari, wow your post was very interesting. Many ideas I have been trying to work out. So how did you mount your W-8000 and W-7000 pads??? Since the backing plate doesn't come off or anything did you glue a Velcro pad so the W-7000, and W-8000 would fit? If possible can you give any help to how this process would work? I would agree it's no PC at only 4400 rpm and 1 speed but for the price and being offered here in asia with the same voltage I thought it would do what I need it to do. But after seeing your after picks it does more then just waxing! Looking forward to hearing about the pad hook up... thanks, asaf

from states.. but i heared that the porter cable are available at phillipene??

ive got also dewalt angle orbital sander but the rpm start from 3500
to 6000 rpm

And Yes i have used some kind of Velcro type on the rubber pad...
Here is a picture to show it , you will see that one of them had fallen off while removing the Meguiar pad , the rest are holdin well
