I guess it depends on how much dirt it picks up from the paint u are using it on. I have one piece of clay that has stayed very clean for about a year(used on my own car).Another one that I used on a not so well taken care of car, I had to throw away after one use.

For customers cars, you may find it cheaper to but the Mild Detailer Clay, and then one of the QD sprays seperate. Esp if you will be using a lot.

Agreed. The life of your clay will depend on the paint surface conditon

The first time I clayed me car the clay got really backed up with ****. Now when I clay it stays pretty clean. My girl frind got a '87 honda and it almost took a whole bar just for the hood!
You left out licking the water off. Oh, wait a minute, that's my cat, not my car. Uh, I mean my cat licks himself dry. I don't lick my cat dry. Or my car. -PC.

Can it go bad from non use? I had a bar for a year that I just found after moving. I used it with quick detailer to try and remove some bug juice that tarminator couldn't remove. The clay caused scratches in my paint. Does it loose its properties over time?

I would think the only way that it would have caused the scratches were because the clay became contaminated with some kind of dust or something.

When I first bought Meguiar's Clay bar I decided to split it in half to see how far it would go. I clayed my wifes car first which hadn't been clayed in 4 years! It took the entire half to do her car (not surprising). The other half I used for my own car but I have very little contaminates since the paint is new. The key thing I have found is how to store it....as the directions say I sprayed it real good with QD and put in in a zip lock bag. I have found it stays fresh and clean this way for future uses. I think Murr idea is a good one in which I will try...I don't think you always need the QD Spray every time because water will work pretty well by putting water in a clean spray bottle so you can mist the area even though it will take the wax with it but most times I don't clay unless I am going to wax after claying. (when storing it's ideal to use the QD for the lasting moisture and lubrication effect water won't provide)

It will get contaminated and dry out if not used. I have the mild clay from the detailer line (blue) and I store it in the black can it came with. I just put some water + QD in it with the clay and it seems to stay good for years.
