  • noob question on product choices

    hi y'all

well ive been a longtime lurker on this site....and i guess its never too late to join this great forum and get my first post goin

i have been using other competitors product such as turtle wax..klasse and sonus.........and truthfully i am very pleased with the results. =p

well anyway i have moved to the other side of the world.....indonesia.....and i cant find products that i am comfortable to use on my new car....with the exception of Meguiars....lol

anyway i am not too familiar with the product lineup but have read some articles here and limit it down to

cleaner: deep crystal paint cleaner step 1

polish: #7 or deep crystal polish step2

sealant/protect: #26 high tech yellow wax or Nxt tech wax

Last: my old carnauba wax(competitor brand)

so my question here is i will be doing by hand.....does the products complement each other in layering.......and does the ingredients in the polish and sealants "stick" to each other very well?

basically i have read in some other websites on a so called "perfect shine" thingy and they have talked about some polymers not sticking well to other synthetic products or something like that.......

i have chose the above products since they are the only ones that i have found......and the stores have limited meguiars products range.

or other recommendations?........maybe something that can keep the shine longer and does not "evaporate" in temperature of average 90s farenheit yearlong

also what are the main differences in the QD.....nxt spray wax...and the other quick detail products?.....also isn't it better if the quick detailer does not have any cleaner in it....?

    cheers

Re: noob question on product choices

    1. There is never a garauntee that different companies products will work well together, but the worst you will get is a little smearing. It isnt like the car is going to explode.

But as far as Meguiars stuff goes, yes, the cleaners, polishes ,waxes all work well together.

    2. Synthetic waxes like Nxt, or #21 Polymer Sealant are probably the most durable ones from Meguairs.

    3. The spray waxes have some wax protction in them, but you have to apply a thin coat, an then go back around and buff off. The spray detailers just wipe on and add gloss, but no protection. And the detailers really are closer to a really well lubricating soapy water, so that you dont add any swirls when wiping off light dust, bird droppings ,etc.

Just to add, if you can find them, ScratchX and ColorX (Colour Boost) are great products for your shelf.

Deep Crystal #1 is a good mild cleaner, but for minor swirl/scratch removal, ScratchX is a great product.

ColorX is a one step cleaner/wax, but topped with Nxt, makes for a great fast combination.

Also, the Smooth Surface Clay Kit is fantastic. If you have never clayed before, and you happen to see a kit in a store, it will really improve the looks.

Re: noob question on product choices

well mine is a new 07 black toyota yaris......so i doubt i would start using clay untill a later date.

i dont remember seeing color x on the shelf here......so for more durability in the coats, i would use nxt tech wax then.

how about the polish, #7 or the deep crystal polish step 2?

Re: noob question on product choices

It may be Color Boost in that part of the world, but same product.

As far as polish, tough call. #7 is the best, but DC#2 isnt far off ,and really easy to apply and remove.

Just to be clear, since I tossed in ColorX to confuse you, here are the two processes you would be looking at:

        1. Wash
        2. Clay if needed
        3. Clean - DC#1 and ScratchX for tough spots
        4. Polish - #7 I suppose.
        5. Wax - Nxt
        6. Wax - Remember 2 coats is best.

        OR:

        1. Wash
        2. Clay as needed
        3. ScratchX any bad spots
        4. ColorX/Color Boost
        5. Wax - Nxt

Re: noob question on product choices

thanks for the inputs murr1525......dont worry about the color x part...its good

just a thought....how about like that:

          1.wash
          2.clay if needed
3.Clean - DC#1 and ScratchX for tough spots
          4.Polish - #7 or DC#2 for easier hand application
5.Wax nxt (since its synthethic...gonna last longer)
6.Wax - competitor brand carnauba (high gloss but dont last)
          7. another last layer nxt???

or just reverse the step 5 and 6, and skip step 7.

how it sound?......what i am trying to achieve is high shine and durability hence the step 7 since it will last longer than a carnauba as a last.

Re: noob question on product choices

Well.. I am not sure if the Nxt over the carnuba will help or not. But you can always try it on a panel and see how it looks. If it looks ok, keep going around the car.
