Accumulator, do you clean the brake disks while you're at it? What would be the best thing to use for that? Methylated spirits? and what should I avoid? Oh and what kind of undercoating should be applied?

mh68, ASD?? apologies for my ignorance.

Thanks again guys I appreciate all the help
I clean *everything* while I'm working in there but the brake discs/rotors are often rusty messes and you'll have to decide how far you want to go with cleaning them up. One thing that I *do* clean up is the dust shield/backing plate behind the discs.

I've never had a problem with any solvents damaging any of the surfaces in wheelwells, but I haven't tried *everything* imaginable either.

I usually only use dressings on vinyl/rubber/plastic. I don't end up using these all that often as they wash off after the next cleanup anyhow and I don't want to be dressing the wheelwells every time I wash the car. I've found that just keeping these areas clean (wash them every time) is often enough on daily drivers.

On some cars I treat the painted areas just like the rest of the paintwork, with waxes/etc. On others I use undercoatings. The stuff I use wouldn't be available in the UK...not sure what to recommend but Wurth and 3M both make a few you could choose from. I'd use black for areas that show.

In some instances you might consider removing plastic inner fender liners (if so equipped). When I did that on my used BMW I found thick accumulations of stuff back behind them, partially clogging some drain holes. I also found some surface rust that needed to be taken care of before it became serious.

Actually I just checked the valeting range on Meguiars UK online store. It seems they got ASD and APC in stock now. I was positive they didnt have APC before. However I dont have the cash to spare for the two right now. Considering the amount im getting, and the quality of the product the prices are pretty good APC £12.43 and ASD around £23. Although the US prices are much cheaper, but its always like that. I probably will give these a miss for a while since I will have to fork out on the spray bottles and nozzles and stuff aswell. The Auto Glym Degreaser I got should do the job. I just need some dressing. Any ideas on what I could use from the enthusiast range? I might have some on my shelf already.

mh68, I dont have hot tyre shine, but did it work well?

Yes it did work well. I just switched to ASD since it was more economical and I can use it on more areas like plastic trim and body mouldings. If you still want to dress the wheel wells, you could also try any tire foam.

Thanks Accumulator and Mike. I am gonna try to tackle my wheel wells tomorow or at the weekend. The way I figure, no matter what I do to them, its gonna look better than how it looks now cos the grime is caked on. God willing everything will go well.
