  • Question about local wand wash... AND WINTER!!!

    Heyhey you guys,
This is my first post lol... neway im a Meguiars addict couldn't live without the stuff... but our winter's here in Winnipeg, MB get downright COLD... alot of the time -30 or -40 degrees celcius... so im rly dreading the first winter with my 03' Sunfire...

    Below is what I do:

HOW TO GET UR CAR JENJEN204 SEXY LOL :
    Exterior Prep:
    - Gold Class Car Wash Shampoo and Conditioner
    - Hot RIms Cleaner
*DONT 4GET THE ELBOW GREASE ON THEM TIRES AND RIMS*
    Final Touch (exterior):
    - Gold Class Clear Coat Wax
    - Gold Class Endurance Tire Gel
    Final Touch (interior):
    - Gold Class Protectant Wipes
    - Stoner Invisible Glass
Any comments or recommendations on what else I should do... plz do tell
O btw I also do the engine bay and wut have you...

... ANYWAY to my question... There is a local wand wash called "The Wave" and they sound rly good.. they even use a clear-coat polymer protectant heehee... I went there once during the summer just for the heck of it... worked pretty good... Im thinking of using it during The winter but bringing my own bucket with Gold Class Wash and mitt... or if you guys think ok use there soap... Plus I was there for a good 1/2hr or so and they didnt care... obviously b.c there wasnt a line up... I did email them to see which brand they use and that but they never got back to me.... So I was wondering if you guys could check out the link... thewavecarwash.com/index.htm [No commercial links are allowed on MOL; Thanks] ... Plus our winters are pretty dang long Oct - March (and COLD) usually ... feels like forever.. anyway thnx in advance... they seem to be the best compared to "The Chamois" car wash which uses those god awful spinny brushes AHHH Best Car WAsh 06' My ARSE

    THANX A MILLION

    CANT WAIT FOR SPRING!!!!!!

i use my own buckets and soft suds (really really cheap at Part Source)

My wand wash allows you to use a bucket if it isn't busy.

Guess at these temps, you wouldn't care about the shine (as if that shows under 12 inch of snow ), but rather have your paintwork survive the winter. So protection is what you're after. If I understand correctly, you already have experience with their sealant. If it works, why not try it again?. Otherwise, you can always revert to Meguiars sealants.

I'd certainly add All Purpose Cleaner to your list. Especially in your environment it would work wonders on the engine bay and wheel wells. You''d also probably be looking at some paint cleaners, since the car is already three years old. So, you could add the smooth surface kit (clay) and the Deep Cristal three step cleaning set. However, since you're now dependant on the space at Wave, you'll probably be best to wait with the paint cleaning until early Spring.

Re: Question about local wand wash... AND WINTER!!!

        Welcome to MOL!

I'm not really crazy about washing my car at those places. I really wonder what is in the soap they use. I will use the plain water to rinse off dust and other debris. If there are some stubborn places, I will use my QD and MF pad will the car is still wet. This is only if I'm on the road away from my Meguiar's washing products.

If you have a good coat of GC wax on your car, you should be able to rinse with plain water over your car to keep it presentable. QD will be your friend during those cold months since you won't have access to the outside to wash your car by hand.

OK I have one more quick question ... If I were to:
          - wash with GC
          - Use Deep Crystal 3 Steps (Is it necessary to use all 3 steps????)
          - wax with GC
Plus do a full detail of EVERYTHING
(Im hoping to do this before the snow flies *crosses fingers*... which will be pretty soon... well it has already sorta started off and on)

How often can or should I be washing during the cold winter months?? During spring - fall I wash once a wk, wax when needed... Should I just spray my car with water as needed??? ... lets say once a week or something to get the road salt and what not off... Then every 2wks or something give it a nice handwash???

The one thing I do like about the touchless automatic car washes is that it cleans your undercarriage... How do you guys clean the undercarriage if all you have at your disposal is a wand wash???

How durable is GC during the Winter??? I know that I applied a coat of GC and it still beads and everything (applied beginning of Sept)... Or would you recommend a different wax???... Should/can I apply wax in the Winter??? O and also How many coats of wax should I put on to prepare it for the winter???

What's the coldest temperature I can use DC system and GC Wax???

Im sorry about the long posts haha... Don't worry I'll make up for it by posting some good Xtreme-ish Makeovers... I'll also give my .02 cents when I can...

It's my first winter with my baby not a beater had a 89' Buick... then a 91' Lumina... not so much beaters as they were cars that weren't rly taken care of ... well nobody really took pride in them... ugh whatever anyway ... my point is that I want to make sure all my hard work and effort during the warmer months doesn't go to waste during this winter....

I'll probably think of more to ask but for now that's it... Any other helpful Winter Tips ARE GREATLY APPRECIATED!!!

BTW when I go through these forums I do actually take notes and stuff so Im not just one of those people that doesnt bother to read and just post STUPIDLY LONG posts....

FIRST OF ALL I COMMEND YOU IF YOU HAVE ACTUALLY READ THIS POST... SECOND THAK YOU SOOOOO MUCH YOU GUYS KICK ROYAL BUTT WHEN IT COMES TO DETAILING!!!!!!!

I don't have to deal with snow and road salt here in the South, but it would make sense to rinse your car off every week if the road salt is really heavy. If you can find a place to let you hand wash were it is somewhat warm that would the best. If not, I would make due with rinsing the road salt and debris off the best you can.

I only rinse my wheel wells and under the front of my car with the wand wash. You could use the soap in the wand wash for that, but I wouldn't use if for anything else. IMO

I have never used GC, but I really like NXT Tech wax. It seems to last longer than the DC#3 I use to use before. You can always use the spray wax to maintain your wax protection during the winter months. It's easy to apply, let it dry like any other wax and wipe off with a MF towel.

What's the coldest temperature I can use DC system and GC Wax???
I would assume anything 32 degrees or below will freeze your wax. This is where you need to find a building where you can pull your car into and let it warm up a little. Never tried to wax during the freezing winter months, especially since we don't have real winters here.

No problem man. There is no such thing as a long post when it's somebody needing help. That is what we are here for, to help each other.

It's my first winter with my baby not a beater had a 89' Buick... then a 91' Lumina... not so much beaters as they were cars that weren't really taken care of ... well nobody really took pride in them... ugh whatever anyway ... my point is that I want to make sure all my hard work and effort during the warmer months doesn't go to waste during this winter.... Putting a good coat of a good wax will be your main defense against winter. Keeping the road salts off your car is your other defense. Of course, anytime your drive a car in the snow where road salt is present, your always going to deal with it. That's why people have their "winter beaters" and keep their babies in the garage until Spring.

I'll probably think of more to ask but for now that's it... Any other helpful Winter Tips ARE GREATLY APPRECIATED!!!
