Do the tire cleaners (specifically NXT Tire Cleaner) help the tire to look cleaner and have a more even shine when they are dressed? In other words, is it worth using a tire cleaner before you dress the tires?

edit: Will it help the life of the tire dressing, ie will it look shiny for longer?

    Re: Tire Cleaners

I only use a trie cleaner about once a month. If the tire is mostly clean a dressing is fine after a good wash.
You left out licking the water off. Oh, wait a minute, that's my cat, not my car. Uh, I mean my cat licks himself dry. I don't lick my cat dry. Or my car. -PC.

Why do you use it once a month? Does enough dust and grime build up after a month to need a tire cleaner? Can you tell a difference after you use the cleaner?

By using the tire cleaner, you are helping that protectant last longer. It will be bonding to the rubber instead of bonding to dirt. It will also improve the appearance.

Yeah, it is more of a durability thing. Even if you chose not to dress them at lease the brown sludgy stuff would be gone.

I use APC and a soft toothbrush.

I guess another question then, what is the best tire cleaner?

Well, I havent tried it yet, but I have a feeling APC+ and the Tire Brush or a soft toothbrush will be a great combo.

I have used the above combo, in fact its my current combo and it works well. I have also used NXT Tire cleaner and it does work very well, you can tell once the tire has been cleaned with a tire cleaner(vs. soap and water). I think its a good idea to 'deep clean' your tires from time to time. I think it removes the build up of dressing and gives your dressing a fresh start.

Wouldnt using a toothbrush be too soft and take up too much time?

                    Re: Tire Cleaners

Well.. it is just a matter of rubbing back and forth gently on the side wall of the tire... cant take more than 30 seconds per tire, esp. if you have washed them somewhat regularly.

Meguiars does make a tire brush, that is soft, bu may be a little stiffer, and is larger.

Using something too stiff can actualy leave fine lines on a smooth sidewall. They of course wear off eventualy, but can show through a dressing. Ot at least they can on mine.

Are you talking about using a toothbrush on the tires? My gosh, that would take all day.. Why not just use the MEGS tire brush? Work great for me, along with that I have the rim brush which also cuts down on time..
