first off, i'm sorry to have created another thread on PC 7474, but i'm just so confused.

    ok, here's my question.

i've been waiting pretty paitently for the meguair deal on the buffer, but last i checked, the deal was on hold. the condition of my car has gotten pretty bad, so i want to do a totaly make-over.

so i decided to get a pc 7474 from costal tools, but i am not sure what i need to start using the machine. For example, how many pads do i need if i want to do the compelete 4 step process (clay, cleaner, polish, wax)?

what pads fit on the pc 7474? do i have to buy meguairs' pads? if so do i need to buy any special attahments?

how do i install the pads? are they screw on? what is the need for velcrow, i've been reading so much about?

    lot of quesitons right?

i just want to make sure i have everything pruchased before i plan a whole weekend around cleaning my car.... which wouldn't be a problem execpt i live in a apt, so i need to use my gf's house.

well that's probably too much info, but any help would be awesome thank you!

    1st - it's a PC 7424

2nd - 3 pads min (from what products you described) more for "seroius" use + toss in microfiber bonnet

3rd - buy megs backing plate comes with some pads(2?)...screw in backing plate with velcro , then velcro on and off various pads - coastal ships with "screw" in pad and velcro backing plate, but hey why not get a good ol' Meguiars set

just did the above myself..got my PC...just waiting for my Megs stuff!

As mrzeee already stated, the CoastalTool PC7424 bonus kit comes with a velcro backing plate (and 6" counterweight).

You should only need to purchase Megs Softbuff pads (6.5") to attach to the backing plate. However, you are not restricted to Megs pads if you don't want to be.

FWIW, I've just bought the same kit from Coastal as you - I then purchased 2 polishing pads and 1 finishing pad from Megs - in general, polishing pads are used for cleaners/polish, the finishing pads are used for glaze/wax.

I have seen pads for sale that are intended to take a clay bar - so that you can use your PC to clay. This sounds scary to me and from what I have read is a complete no-no. Best to keep claying as a manual process.

      Cheers,
      Phil

I am about to buy the PC from Coastal also. You only need pads if you buy it from them. It now includes the right backing plate and counterweight. It is the 7424 model which is the same as the Meguiars one, but without the lifetime warranty. The price is what has turned me away from the Meguiars one. I would love to buy it from them, but not for the price that they want. I also have to have money to buy the Meguiars products. I was waiting for the PC deal also, but I will have to turn to Coastal. Plus, I just noticed that Meguiars charges tax for Texas residents...ouch! That makes things even worse...shipping and taxes... I am going to try NAPA and see if they have the stuff that I need to buy from Meguiars.

Meg's also sells the pads you need in a kit of three.
WDAV99-B includes two polishing (W8006) and one finishing (W9006) pad for around $25. If purchased separately they would go for $33.

The same kit of three pads plus a velcro backing plate W-DAV99 goes for $33. In essence you get the backing plate for $8 with this kit.

You might want a burgandy cutting pad too -- W-7006. I use this pad for the tuff stuff and then follow its use with a polishing pad.

use what you have...I'd say - unless the stuff you have is soo old you can't remeber what year you purchased!

                    Something to think about.

Meguiar's has a New Products package that comes with free shipping. Anything you add to that package order also comes with free shipping.

The NPROD04 package comes with lots of useful stuff.
                    # G-11920 Quik Suds Car Wash Strips
                    # G-12115 Hot Shine High Gloss Tire Spray
                    # G-12718 NXT Generation Tech Wax
                    # G-12924 NXT Generation Tech Protectant
                    # (2) M-9910 Ultimate Wipe

This package sells for $40. When I ordered this package they offered me a second kit for $20 which I bought to give to my son. He loved it.

I also picked up the RESREM03 kit. This $20 package contains more very useful products.
                    # M-3916 Heavy Duty Vinyl Cleaner
                    # M-4016 Vinyl & Rubber Cleaner/Conditioner
                    # (2) A-7202 Hi-pile 100% Cotton Towels
                    # G-310 Interior/Exterior Detail Brush

I also stocked up on some other items I needed like pads and other Professional line products that are difficult to get locally and I got free shipping on the whole lot.

Quick question, when you say the "ones in the red bottle" do you mean the Deep Crystal System, as in DC Paint Cleaner, DC Polish, DC Caranuba Wax? If so, then....

                        1. Clay - by hand.

                        2. DC Paint Cleaner - polishing pad (W8006)

                        3. DC Polish - finishing pad (W9006) - I think.

                        4. DC Caranuba - by hand with a foam applicator.

The DC Paint Cleaner is used to remove/minimize any swirls or scratches you may have.

The DC Polish is used to "condition and nourish" the paint (from Meg's website)

The DC Caranuba Wax is used to "seal" and protect your paint.

I haven't tried the DC system with my PC yet (I've only used #80/#81/NXT, which is similar), so I might be wrong about which pad to use with the DC Polish. Hopefully someone else can say if this is correct or not.

But you'll love your PC. I just got mines and it's so wonderful! I can do a WAY better job with it than by hand.

Hope this helps a bit. And post pictures when you've finished!

                        Reid

PS - And there's never a last question! I've learned there is always seem to be some question that comes up, especially when you're just beginning. So keep asking them if you aren't sure about something. Good luck!

you can also use the pc to apply the wax with a deadacated finishing pad, than you can put an ulitmate bonnett over a polishing pad to remove it.
