  • DC for new car with G-100? / When to start with professional line

I originally posted this in "Suggested products for taking care of a new car". Hope you don't mind I started a new thread.fficeffice" />

Do you still suggest using Deep Crystal Paint Cleaner and Deep Crystal Polish for taking care of a new car if you are using a dual action polisher or G-100? If so at what point do I consider using the Professional (Mirror Glaze Brand) line? Are there similar products to use that are better with my dual action polisher in the Professional line? I’ve read a lot about using Speed Glaze #80. When’s a good time to start using this? Again it's a new car.

Overall I’m a little confused of what products to use in the professional line. I’ve done a lot of reading on this forum and I’m getting the hang of it, but I’m still confused. Thanks.

While some people do use the Deep Crystal, or other Consumer Line, products with the G-100, they are generaly meant for hand use, and the Professional Line products are generaly meant for machine use.

With the G-100, #80 is a mild cleaner/polish, and is kind of the main go-to product for most situations.

#82 is a very mild cleaner/polish, and #83 is a medium strength cleaner/polish that are also good to use with the G-100.

It isnt really a matter of when to use the different products, more that the Professional Line, and the above products specificaly, are designed for use by machine.

So is #80 something I would use regularly? Is this something I would use lets say twice a year or so or more often? Is there a product I would use in between such as a pure polish, or something not abrasive?

I'm basically looking for a routine I could use for a year. I know it depends on how neglected you car is or how much abuse it takes. I looking for an idea of what I should be doing.

For example starting off with a new car. Maybe clay once or twice a year? Use #80 so many times a year? Wax every month or two? Is there other professional products to include or add in?fficeffice" />

If your goal is twice a year, #80 would be best. You really don't want to use a product with no cleaning ability, otherwise you will just be polishing and waxing over dirt.

#80 is a product that could be used every 3 months for years and years, but if you would like an even milder product, #82 is a good choice. Again, it still has some cleaning ability which is good for you.

While some people will do a full wash/clean/polish/wax, then simple was hand wax every week after for a few months, it sounds to me like you are going to be working on more of a daily driver, and not wanting to do care every week.

So I would be looking at something simple, like #80 followed by 2 coats of #21 Synthetic Sealant, and you could do that every couple months and be set for years.

There are always more and more products to add.. you'll get addicted. If you have a dark color car, #7 is a great pure polish, and you could use #80, then #7, then #21.

Then there is glass ,wheels, tires, wheel wells ,trim, chrome/polished aluminum, seats, dashboard, and so on and so on.

Thanks for all the help.fficeffice" />

So is #80 something I should use regularly even though my finish looks flawless? Is this where #82 comes in handy? Do you not want to use something with no abrasives in between waxes if your finish looks fine? For example just a plain cleaner and pure polish like DC. If I use #80 2-3 times a year, can I just wax in between that time? I feel as though I should clean or polish more often before waxing.

First, dont get too tied up with 'abrasives' in Meguiars products. These products feel like skin lotion in your hand, they arent the old fashioned gritty things that are like sandpaper. Even DC#1 has abrasives in it.

But yes, if you dont seem to have any swirls, deep dirt to remove, then #82 would be very nice.

I agree that I like to clean before waxing, not just wax over an old surface. So yes, #80 or #82 (both cleaner/polishes) would be used, and then wax.

              a good system would be...

              1. wash
              2. clay
              3. #80
              4. wax (nxt, gc, #21, #26, etc..)
              5. spray wax *optional* to maintain and protect the waxed finish
