  • ColorX and the PC...

My question is two fold...I have two things in my detailing arsenal I have yet to use; my PC Dual Action Polisher and my bottle of ColorX.

1)Has anyone applied the ColorX via PC, and if you have could you please give me some suggestions as to which pad/pads to use and how to properly remove?

2)I plan on applying NXT Tech Wax upon completion of the ColorX, but I am wondering if I should follow up with Quik Detail or Final Inspection after the application of ColorX and before the application of the NXT.

    Thanks in advance!

    Hi gi43212,

Congratulation on adding the PC to your arsenal, I have yet to meet anyone that regrets purchasing a PC.

I have used this combination on both single-stage finishes and clear coated finishes and it works pretty well. The ColorX is an extra strong cleaner/wax and does an excellent job when combined with the high speed oscillating action of Meguiar’s W-8006 foam polishing pad between the 4.0 and 5.0 setting. On single-stage finishes you can use the W-7006 for more bite and thus more cleaning action on severely neglected finishes, but for clear coat finishes stick with the W-8006. The W-9006 is a finishing pad and is better for applying polishes and waxes like NXT, #26, Gold Class, Deep Crystal Polish, etc.

For removing the ColorX, you can use a premium microfiber polishing cloth, soft 100% cotton terry cloth towels, or a microfiber bonnet like Meguiar’s Ultimate Bonnet. If you choose to use the Ultimate Bonnet, it works best on either a W-7006 or W-8006 foam pad, (the W-9006 pad is too soft to be effective), on at least the 4.0 setting or higher. Push down on the PC with about 4-5 pounds of pressure. Remember, the Ultimate Bonnet is reversible. Also, don’t use the Ultimate Bonnet on a foam pad that is wet with product. The product will soak into the bonnet and render it useless until you wash and dry it.

There is no need to go over the finish with a quick detailer before applying the NXT if you do a good job of removing the ColorX. You can if you want, but I would just do a good job of removing the ColorX with a soft removal cloth and save the quick detailer for other things.

For application of the NXT Tech Wax, because you have already removed the oxidation, stains, and other defects, (as good as a cleaner/wax can), then you can either apply the Tech Wax with a new, clean dedicated W-8006 polishing pad or a W-9006 finishing pad. In a multiple step process, it is usually better to use a finishing pad for application of your LSP. Also, because you have already accomplished the cleaning step, you should now turn the speed down to anywhere from the 1.0 to 3.0 setting. All you’re really trying to do at this point is to apply a well worked-in, even application of wax. Therefore our don’t need a high speed, or a pad with bite.

For removal, I would highly recommend using your softest polishing cloths, cotton, microfiber, or microfiber bonnet. Use the same technique as mentioned above. If you can, allow enough time to pass for the engineered synthetic polymers in the Tech Wax to fully set-up before applying the second coat. This is a window of time approximately 12 hours for maximum results. If you can’t wait, then go a head and apply the second coat when you can.

    Thanks in advance!
    Thanks for trusting Meguiar’s!

          Rick,

Thank you for the picture. In your experience with ColorX, have you found that it reduces light swirls at all?

            color x rules!!

i must say,i didn't really looked if color x removes swirls.what i can say,it doesn't remove old bird dropping spots, but the paint was very smooth after the aplication of color x.
i really loved the way it brought back the color.
you can see the complete cat,in the extreme makeover forum, there it can be found under red vectra makeover.
