You can try it, however Meguiar's does not recommend the use of soap and water when using clay, as they say it can deteriorate the clay.

A lot of guys use soap for clay lube. I haven't had any trouble with NXT wash but like Mister B said, some clays will disintegrate when used with some soaps.

You might check to see if you can get #34 Final Inspection or Last Touch in Norway. They come in gallon (3.79 liter) containers so will probably be expensive initially but cheaper in the long run (and you can dilute Last Touch 50:50 so it costs even less to use).

Oh, and you do need to rinse the car off after claying with soap.

You can use soap and water and it will work for a lube. The thing soap and water won't due that a quality mist & wipe quick detailer/clay lube will do is it,
              • Won't wipe off as easy
              • Won't make the paint look beautiful after wipe off

Mist and wipe products, also used as clay lubes, such as Quik Detailer or Speed Detailer are formulated to lubricate the surface but to also add gloss and slickness to the paint after wipe off as well as make the wiping off process easy.

A quality mist and wipe product is actually a complicated product.

As for the cost of using soap and water versus a mist & wipe, at $17.00 a bottle for a quick detailer that sounds kind of steep but is that relative to the price for anything in Norway?

What does a pair of Nike shoes or Levi pants cost?

Regardless, if you're going to clean, polish or apply wax after claying then how the soap and water mix looks after wipe-off is of little matter. Just have plenty of clean, soft microfiber polishing cloths on hand to make wiping off easy and effective.

As someone pointed out in the above thread, soap and water mixtures can have a negative effect on the clay even going so far as to dissolve it and make it come apart, depends on the type of soap and the amount used.

                            Re: QD for Clay

Thanks for the replies. I have some QD, but I have even more soap so it would have been better to use up some soap than a bottle of QD. Not a problem though.
