  • New "Black" Ford Fusion

I'm one of the guilty ones of sending Mike a personal e-mail. My wife by the way always accuses me of not reading the instructions. Must be a guy thing cuz I can't tell you how many times on Christmas Eve I got stuck putting kids toys to-gether. My apologies Mike. Now my question. I know there are lots of posts re: keeping the black car looking awesome, but please bear with me. I haven't had a new car since 1970 (all company cars). I'm now retired and bought a new car. I love black when it's clean so I'm not going to buy a white car. I have become so confused over what products to use. I purchased NXT wax. I use the car wash, the leather care, the wheel and tire products etc. Before I go and buy one of everything please give me some guidance on what to do before I wax the car for the winter. ie. seal it then wax? Also please do me another favor and spell the product out without using a number.
On a very positive note I've never come across a forum so passionate about car care and Mike you really are proof of this.

    Re: New "Black" Ford Fusion

Gotta love a clean black car.

A good place to start would be with a Meguiar's RX. http://www.meguiars.com/rx/rx_main.asp

Also to help you learn the numbering system.

To get my truck ready for this winter I put on 2 coats of Synthetic Sealant (#21) and covered that with a coat of NXT. The Sealant gives it that deep black wet look, and the NXT is pretty much there to protect the Sealant from wearing off too soon. As for touching up this winter, I am going to be using X-Press Wax. It's very easy on and easy off.

There would be not problem just using the NXT for the winter, I did that last year and it worked great. I just wanted to try something else this year.

    Hope I helped you some.
    Scott

It looks like you have most of the must have products. Have you read all the articles in the information station section?

Congrats on the new purchase! Adding come more reading for you have is a post Mike started sometime ago that might be of some help: Suggested products for taking care of a new car!

Sounds like you have a good start on your line up of products. Sounds like you have some knowledge of car care already. NXT Tech Wax is a great start, an excellent wax for black! After reading some of the information posted above by the other members including the 5-Step Paint Care Cycle sit back and think what you want.... Do you have the time and are you willing to apply a paint cleaner something like, Deep Crystal Paint Cleaner and a paint polish like Deep Crystal Polish and the NXT Tech wax you already have. - or - would you rather just apply a wax from time to time? I am assuming you are going to be working by hand and all the products above work very well by hand and are easy to find.

Don't forget you are using quality products on your vehicle and you also need quality towels/wash mitts and such to help prevent any swirls/scratches while you are using these products.

Thanks for all the input. I'm off to buy the cleaner and polish and get it waxed before the temp. goes down to far and the snow flies. We had a bit here testerday and it's cold enough now to still see some on the ground. As far as using my hands to do all the work? I actually enjoy the time and especially love the outcome....based on some of the pictures and posts I've seen here I'm actually excited to see the outcome. Maybe next year I'll clay, seal and wax. Hell I might even attempt a PC. Thanks again they are great posts.
