  • Whats the best way to remove clearcoat overspray?

When I first purchased my wifes car, approx 3 weeks after, one of the wonderful neighbor children dropped an exposed bicycle handlebar into the rear door. After getting the ding out and having it repainted I noticed a small line of clearcoat overspray on the roof. I've tried clay, but that didn't work.

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks in advance.

what kind of clay did you use. For overspray I use clay magic's red bar. It removes all over spray. Are you sure you clayed the car the correct way?

Since it has been recently painted I would stay away from any kind of paint thinner or reducer, you may damage the paint.

Sometimes you just need to rub a little harder with the clay.

But i suggest before you do anything, take it to the body shop that painted it and have them remove it. If you try to do and something goes wrong the shop will not warranty the work they did.
Products are only a good as the detailer using them.

Removing something like this can be very difficult mostly because you don't want to harm the underlying finish.

Taking NY Detailer's advise is probably the best and safest way to go.

One thing you might try and that's ScratchX. Recently I detailed a Mach 1 and found at least two places with clear coat over-spray from the factory.

I carefully removed using ScratchX and a foam applicator pad by hand.

Never thought i using scratch x for over spray removal. Might try that next time.

One thing i have found that scratch x does real well is paint transfer removal. You know when a red car bumper a white car and leaves a red paint mark, it takes it right off.

why does scratch X come in such a small bottle anyway?

          Thanks guys,
I have some scratch-x on hand and depending on the weather this weekend, I'll give it a try. Like I said NY the paint isn't that new. I don't know if that will make it harder to get off or not.

Probably harder... but you never know until you try...

Just take it back to the body shop. I've had to do that on numerous occasions for overspray.
