  • What should I get?

I won the G100 and a $100 certificate for Meguiar's stuff!! Now I'm wondering what I should get with the certificate. I'm not sure what kind of pads or stuff I should get. Brian Hann suggested I get the WDAV99-B set of pads, so of course I'll get those. I was wondering what products beside that I would need. I've seen a lot of pictures of awesome results with #80 and #83, so I thought maybe I should get some of those two products? I would be using the stuff to remove oxidation and swirls. Also, I was wondering if I would need to get more pads then the set Brian suggested? That set has two polishing pads and one finishing pad. I am hoping to start a detailing business, so would I need more pads than that? Also, is there any wax that y'all would recommend to use with the G100, or would the Gold Class, NXT, and DC #3 that I have work fine?

I'm so excited about this...I feel like a kid in a candy shop! Lol.

    Thanks in advance!

#80 is a must... a bottle of #83 will certainly be good for business, as would #66. And I would get #21. Maybe some APC+ as well.

You'll certainly want several more pads, and towels/bonnets, etc, but the prices on ADS for those items might be better.

            Congrats on the win!

            I would agree that #80 and #83 are must-haves.

You’ll need at least one pad per product that use regularly plus a couple spares. At least one WDAV99-B kit is a good thing but I’d probably go with two unless I needed the budget for something else.

Not everybody needs (or wants to pay for) a full multi step detail avery time so I think a cleaner/wax is a must-have as well. #66 would be best if do a lot of one-step jobs but ColorX is fine to start out.

The GC, NXT and DC 3 you have will work fine until you use them up. Don’t feel like you have to buy any new LSP’s for now. But if you want to and you find you have the budget go for it.

Don’t know what you already have in the way of towels, brushes and such. There’s no such thing as too many microfibers.

Think through some customer jobs and visualize doing each step. If you see yourself needing a tool, towel or product you don’t already have, add it to the list.

Congrats Lydia, I think it's just so cool that you won this time around!! I have to agree with what everyone else has said about product selection and pads.....can't have too many pads!

                      Congradulations Lydia!

some things come to mind are clay, 80, 83, APC or APC+ and 21. Just another thought, 82 is pretty good stuff especially for paint that mars easily. On my black Grand Prix, I have a tough time with 80 hazing on a polishing pad, when I switch to 82 and a finishing pad, the results are great. Good Microfibers are a must also...

80, 83, 21, and APC. I'd also make sure you have 2 8006, one 9006 (two if you can afford it), and a 7006 if you can afford it.

Congrats on your win kiddo! Now you can do some really detailed work for your customers. Here is my suggestion list:

                          #83

                          #80

4-8006 polishing pad (never hurts to have extras for both products)

                          2-9006 finishing pad

1-7006 cutting pad for using with MF bonnet

                          1-MF bonnet (2-per pack)

                          #21 or NXT, your choice

Smooth Surface Clay kit (comes with clay, QD, MF towel and sample of Cleaner Wax

That should cut into that $100 certificate pretty good. Have fun and keep us posted on your results.

                              Re: What should I get?

Thanks so much for all the suggestions and everything! I've been working a lot lately so I haven't had time to update y'all but I really appreciate the replys! I just emailed Brian Hann back about the order and told him I wanted the following products:

2 sets of the WDAV99-B pads (in effect, 4 8006 pads and 2 9006 pads)
1 gallon of #80 ------- product number M8001 BSP Speed Glaze
                              32 ounces of #83 ------- product number M8332 BSP Dual Action Cleaner/Polish
Gold Class Endurance - Medium Gloss --------- product number G7416
Smooth Surface Clay Kit ---------- product number G1016

That's just what I'm getting for now; hopefully soon I can get some MF's, #66, #26 and/or #21, maybe #82, and a 7006 pad. That order cut into my certificate pretty good; I'm going to end up owing them, lol.

I just had one question about the order. Do y'all think a gallon of #80 is too much? I wasn't sure how much to get. The order isn't exactly placed yet because I have to wait for Brian to email me back as to whether or not it's ok for me to email him my CC number to cover the amount over $100, so if y'all think I won't need a gallon of #80, I can probably change it.
                              Thanks again!!
                              Lydia

PS. I just detailed a deep red 1995 Oldmobile Eighty-Eight Royale for a good friend of mine using DC car wash, clay, DC #1, DC #2, NXT wax, and Color-X. I used DC 1 and 2 and NXT on as much of the car as I could (until I ran out of energy and time) and then used Color-X on the remainder. The owner was very happy with the results and impressed because she'd just asked for wash and wax and didn't expect me to use clay and DC 1 and 2. Anyways, the other day she took her car to another friend to get the struts replaced and told that friend that I had detailed her car. She told me he sounded pretty interested in getting me to do his car. I really hope he gets me to do it because pretty much from the first time I saw his car right after he bought it, I've wanted to detail it....it's a black BMW Z3 convertible.

Edit: The reason I didn't get any APC is because I already have some APC+. Also, I already have two Meg's MF bonnets because I accidentally ordered them from ADS a while ago thinking they were 10" and would fit on the buffer my Dad got me.
