My truck got keyed at work last night. The gouge goes from above my front tire all the way to past my back tire. All of it is deep enough to catch my fingernail. I can`t afford a repaint so I`m going to try using touchup paint to fill in the scratch. I know it wont look exactly right but this is a vehicle that I`m considering starting a mobile business with and I just need to make the parts where it goes all the way down to either metal or primer less obvious. They show white or metal and even a different shade of black wouldn`t show as much as that does. Any tips or ideas on how to get the touch up paint applied evenly? I`ve read somewhere that using a toothpick with very small amounts at a time works well but they were talking about a tiny rock chip not a 6ft scratch. I don`t have much money or supplies but plenty of time.

Re: My truck got keyed!
I`d love to find who did it and make them pay for a complete repaint but no security cameras cover the lot, it was late at night, and I didn`t notice it until the next day. I found touch up paint with a ball point tip and tried both that and the toothpick method. I couldn`t get the paint to not spread out from the scratch using either method so it looks like I`ll be doing wet sanding. Unless I can get the sanding marks out by hand I`ll have to wait untill I can afford a DA. The good thing is that I`m fixing the rock chips in my hood now that I have the touchup paint.1986 4Runner 4wd

Re: My truck got keyed!
wet sanding is definetly a method you should try to use. I had some pretty bad rock chips and scratches. I removed those with filling them with some touch up paint and and remove the excess paint with a sanding block. The sanding marks i was able remove with ScratchX and a cloth (not the pads). I have to say that i have pretty soft paint.Fiat Bravo 1.4S 12V : My Pride & Joy

Re: My truck got keyed!
I had three scratches on my rear bumper. I did lots of surfing and trying different repair kits and methods. What finally worked for me was touch up paint from my car dealer and some wet sanding and lots of patience.
Result was good and repair area is almost unvisible.
Tooth pick didn't work for me either. I used small brush that came with touch up or You can get one from a hobby shop I believe brush #1 not sure. good luck

Re: My truck got keyed!
My paint is Onyx Black 202. It`s a flat black that Toyota still uses as it`s standard black. I filled in a rock chip on my hood and the color matched perfectly.1986 4Runner 4wd

Re: My truck got keyed!
Has anyone tried the new duplicolor scratch kit.I have wanting to try one,but it's takes way to long to do(about 2-3 days for everything to dry).Every time I want to try it,winter is always coming and it's way too late.Duplicolor also has a new roller ball pen for scrated also. But it doesn't work that great.

Re: My truck got keyed!
I've used the roller ball pen and it worked fine for me. I had a piece of cardboard that I could dap the pen on as it dried out. If i can fig out how to post pics on here I could show you a keyed car I repaired. Keyed right down to the bare metal in a couple of spots! They even took the time to write the name for a female dog on the trunk. I used the Duplacolor pen and wet sanded the area. Then used scratch-x with a rotary buffer and foam pad. The lady I did it for was older and I did it very cheap for her and she was amazed that her lil Tempo (ya Tempo) could look so good after somebody did that to her car.
I'll try and post pics soon.

Re: My truck got keyed!
Yup. I've used a rotary for some 7 years. I've used most not all Meg's product with my good ol Makita.
Here is a pic (if this works) of a Tempo that was keyed:
Same spot:
And an after: Not perfect but Not bad.....considering:
Wow what a rigamaroll to post pics. Hope it works.
Ok so that did'nt work. The pics are in the gallery though.Professional Automotive Reconditioning Services
