  • swirls?

I think i made a big mistake.I used to polish 18yrs ago, using a wool pad & 3m finess-itll.no problem, no swirls using a rotory 1000-1500 rpm at most.great befor wax.Now i used 3m finess-it with a meguiars black finish pad.Swirl marks all over. On my new 2006 black focus.with all the new products,i not sure what to use,can you help please.I just can,t believe it.I did final polish on cadillacs for the auto show back then.Maybe i,m not used to these "foam" pads, alot has changed, the paint too[25yrs since that] i don,t want to drive it, knowing what i used to do ,any one help! Thanks, mavrick

maybe you've applied too much pressure..& maybe as mike phillips always stated, to start with a least agressive combination

No almost 100% sure that meguiar's has no black pad... LC has a black or grey pad, but thats all i can think of. Can you take a picture of it?

Is this the one you’re talking about? It's the only black Meguiar's pad I've seen.

Like you said, paint has changed a lot over the last 25 years. That’s the big reason foam pads have become the standard for high quality finishes. The old ways/products don’t work as well with the new coatings.

There’s plenty of great info in the section: Mastering the Rotary Buffer

            PC.

                Re: swirls?

Well i thought that, but it was the weight of the wheel mainly, not much pressure.the 3m finess-itll might be to aggesive for todays paint. thanks, mavrick
